The “lower chamber” of the Minnesota legislature has two representatives per senate district for a total of 134. A brighter future for our district depends on achieving fully-funded education at all levels, clean water, as well as affordable and accessible health care—including reproductive health. Rep. Gene Pelowski endorsed me because he knows I will put the needs of the district first and that my state experience and bi-partisan support prepare me to address these concerns. Voters tell me they’re tired of divisive politics that don’t result in workable solutions. Many are struggling to manage the challenges of daily life: affording a home, juggling rising costs, and providing a healthy and safe environment for their families. Our district deserves representation that puts people above politics.
Our state’s economy expands when we promote even-handed fiscal policies that stimulate sustained growth. In order to maximize employment levels, we must increase funding for technical and university programs that train a diverse workforce, in addition to promoting capital investment in local projects. Combating rising costs is a challenge for the Legislature; however, we can achieve more prudent spending through meaningful bipartisan dialogue.
Dismantling racial and ethnic disparities requires a multi-faceted approach. A central issue is the current K-12 funding model that creates inequality among school districts. Students living in some zip codes receive a vastly different educational experience than their counterparts in other communities. I believe that the quality of education students receive and the environment in which they learn shouldn’t be dependent upon their communities’ ability or willingness to raise requisite revenue.
I will work to generate opportunities that increase our capacity to combat the effects of climate change. Alternative energy is essential; legislation must incentivize this transition. As the state invests in economic development, we have the opportunity to promote sustainable businesses, generate new jobs and sources of revenue, all while decreasing our carbon footprint. Protecting our future through smart climate initiatives is essential for the environment and long-term economic growth.
