To serve the public in the pursuit of justice through the ethical prosecution of criminal offenders, seek justice for crime victims, and improve community safety
We consider an offender's background, criminal history, victim's input (if any), and community safety.
I consider the offenders rehabilitation needs, criminal history, need to protect victims, need to protect the public and deterrence. My aim is to be fair, reasonable, respectful, and just.
The judge determines the sentence. However, the judge relies on information from the prosecutor and defense counsel. I believe the District Attorney's Office plays a key role in reducing recidivism. I consider an offender's history (charged and uncharged). I consider an offenders rehabilitation needs, attempts at community supervision and treatment in the community, and the need to protect the public before recommending a prison sentence. I support diversion programs and our recovery court.
No. When reviewing a case for charging decision, I also am considering what outcome I am looking for, and I also consider the effect a charging decision will have on the offender and any victims. We need funding to incorporate a risk/needs assessment to better determine which offenders are low risk/low need and would be better suited in our diversion program.
