To me, public service means being a vessel for the families and the community I serve. I understand the collective; therefore, I am able to serve the collective.
My experience in Federal Government shaped me along the way and helped mold me into the woman that I am today. I have a strong background in government finances and accountability.
It is important to elect leaders that understand the issues facing our City. Making sure we have a strong but conservative budget is my top priority. Attracting big business to Haines City to strengthen our job market. We need to improve traffic flow as we continue to grow.
Cities that lack affordable housing fail to meet the needs of families living under a variety of circumstances and lead to higher poverty rates. I support the city's efforts to provide greater access to down payment assistance, extend mortgage credit to the underserved, and petition to remove obstacles to government grants that finance affordable home construction. And lastly, create opportunities for sustainable homeownership opportunities.
Better together! Collaborating with other city municipalities can strengthen needed actionable growth. I would support enacting cross-city training to build leadership and governance in each climate. Engaging all departments by creating opportunities for cross-city training and sharing best practices will help strengthen each city's footprint. Creating quarterly training for like groups of staff will yield the results needed to meet these goals.
I plan to form focus groups, community meetings, and interview community leaders such as non-profits in an effort to gain access to their following. I would begin to solicit input through surveys to gather valuable information from constituents by providing opportunities to truly integrate their feedback. It is important to take stock in the community as a whole. I plan to pilot opportunities for engaging constituents through an agenda of learning, direct feedback, and outcomes.
