I have been the Alderperson for District 3 since 2020 and have learned a lot in that time. I've attended the League of Municipalities Conference to learn even more about civic process, issues and possible solutions. I have been appointed to the Planning and Zoning Committee for the city, which has taught me a great deal as well. Some of my skills that help in this capacity is that I'm a great listener, effective communicator and a problem solver.

I also work for Oneida County Dept. of Social Services. This allows me to be aware of what the needs of our community are, and I know a lot of resources within our community. I feel that I can serve my community best by utilizing these resources and be used as a conduit between both forms of government.
The biggest issue that I see is the housing crisis we have within the city. As part of the City Council, I have approved of some housing developments that have occurred, but we still need more. I hope to implement a Residential Rental Inspection Program in the city in order to ensure safety and to get some of our older rental homes back up to code. Another issue that doesn't get a lot of spotlight is the issue of social isolation. I feel we have a number of people in our community that feel isolated, including elders that may be home bound to teenagers that feel they just don't fit in anywhere. As the city representative to the One Nation One Project initiative, we are using data that shows that if the city, health professionals and artists come together it increases social cohesion and makes the community a healthier place. Through this project we are looking to build a skate park. We've also started the SPARK program for those struggling with dementia.
I think one of the basic amenities that should be funded is transportation. I understand that we have cab companies and a transit van, but not everyone is allowed to use these methods. Especially school age children that may want to go to an after-school activity that doesn't involve the school/sports, but their parents are still working, so they can't participate in the activities because of the transportation issue this city has. I feel transportation is a huge barrier that doesn't allow people from engaging in our community. This includes both young people as well as our elders.
I encourage all of my constituents to contact me either by phone, email or talking to me in person. I am willing to talk to anybody most anytime. I also encourage everyone to watch the City Council meetings on HodagTV.com so they can keep up to date with what is being talked about at the council meetings.
