City of Marco Island Charter Amendment: The title of Chairman and Vice-Chairman shall be changed to Mayor and Vice-Mayor
Ballot Language:The City Charter currently refers to the Chief Elected Officials for the City of Marco Island as Chairman and Vice-Chairman selected by the City Council every year. Should the City Charter be amended to provide that the reference to the Chairman and Vice-Chairman be changed to Mayor and Vice-Mayor, with no changes to current powers and authority, term limits, or eligibility.Synopsis: In 1997, Marco Island passed a City Charter with the Councilor-Manager form of government, that provided that City Council would annually select a Chairman and Vice-Chairman as the Chief Elected Officials for the City of Marco Island. Most Florida cities refer to their local government heads as Mayor/Vice-Mayor. These title changes would bring the City of Marco Island titles in line with most Florida cities but with no change to the current Councilor-Manager form of government and no changes to the current powers and authority, term limits or eligibility.Source: City of Marco Island Council Meeting video, January 8, 2024A Yes Vote Would:-Change the title for the council-selected Chairman and Vice-Chairman to Mayor and Vice-Mayor.A No Vote Would:-Retain the current title of Chairman and Vice-Chairman.
