Issue 18: Perry Township Road Levy
Replacement of 1.0 mill and increase of 6.8 mills, roads, 5 years, commencing in 2024.Perry Township trustees are asking township voters to replace an existing 1.0-mill road levy with a 7.8-mill levy that would last for five years, starting in 2025. A Road Department levy has not been approved by Perry voters since 1986. A 2019 levy was rejected. If the proposed levy is approved, an existing 2.0-mill road levy would be allowed to expire. The department’s current levies garner $1.2 million annually. The proposed levy would cost the owner of a $100,000 home an additional $273 and would generate $5.23 million per year.In addition to funding road repaving and maintenance of some 150 miles of township roads, the proposed levy proceeds would be used to purchase new trucks, reduce response time for snow removal and address drainage issues. The new request is prompted by increases in both paving costs (from $80,000/mile in 2021 to $150,00/mile in 2023) and equipment replacement costs.Helpful resources:Find your Stark County property parcel #.Use the Stark County Tax Estimator to approximate how tax levies and bond issues (proposed or recently passed) will impact your specific property.
