Issue 16: Jackson Township Police District Levy

Replacement, 5.75 mills, police, 5 years, commencing in 2024Jackson Township Trustees are asking residents to replace an existing 5.75 mill property tax to support the Police Department; it would be effective for 5 years. The levy is expected to fund the department staffed as is for the next 10 years. The purpose of the levy includes maintaining police vehicles, buildings, communications equipment and salaries.The current levy was approved in 2014 and generates $8.1 million a year; the replacement levy would raise $11.2 million a year. If approved, the annual tax for a homeowner of a $250,000 home would be $315.08, an increase of $144.29. The levied tax would begin in 2024, be collected in 2025 and expire in 2028.In 2014 the Jackson Police Department had 43 full time officers and handled 32,212 calls. Today the department has 55 full time officers who handled 63,985 calls in 2023.
