I would fight to stop the culture war laws that are being passed simply to distract voters from the problems we are actually facing. Additionally housing costs are rising more and more every year with no end in sight. I will fight to addresses not only corporations buying up single family housing, but also renter protection laws to prevent landlords from price gouging. I would fight to change the laws around electricity pricing as well since those rates continue to skyrocket every year.
I lend my full support behind automatic voter registration, ranked choice voting, and ending gerrymandering. I am vehemently opposed to any laws that restrict a citizens right to have their voice heard, such as voter ID laws, 30 day prior registration, and drop box location removal. As a poll worker I have witnessed the problems brought about by the new voter ID laws due a simple change such as a recent change of address. We also need to work to repeal Citizens United and create voting laws similar to the wording in the proposal by Citizens not Politicians.
The government should improve the infrastructure in Ohio in order to entice companies to move here. If we had far reaching internet and a comprehensive rail system to easily move goods it would encourage companies to move here. If the infrastructure cannot support companies then the companies cannot be competitive. We have to be very careful when granting tax abatements to ensure the relationship between the corporation and the community is profitable on both sides.
We need to fully fund K-12 schools and give them the support to pay teachers appropriately and have smaller class sizes, as well as ensuring that every student is fed regardless of income. We need to stop pushing culture war politics into the schools as that is harming our children and draining our resources. With higher education other than dealing with taxes the government needs to leave them alone. They do their job well at educating adults, and adults can decide what they want to learn. The government should not dictate what they are or are not allowed to learn.
Too much state interference will undermine local authority but no interference results in local authorities trying to erect fiefdoms. It's a delicate balancing act that has to be taken on a case by case basis. Federal and state monetary support is needed to help bolster the local coffers to fix aging infrastructure that can't be covered by local taxes. In the case of natural disasters we need to work in tandem with local and state officials to solve the crisis and help with cleanup, as these cleanups cannot but supported only by local residents. If the local governments start changing regulations to harm citizens or pad the pockets of a few local leaders then the state needs to intervene.
I believe that it is every person's choice along with their doctors on the best course of action to take with their healthcare. This includes physical as well as mental and even emotional health. It is not the place of government to dictate what an individual can or cannot do with their own healthcare. As well as, investing in preventative, and wellness programs beginning at childbirth.
S.B. 52, and H.B. 507 both need to be repealed immediately. One allows solar and windfarms to be almost exclusively banned and the other allows fracking in our state parks. We need to be moving to renewable energy and away from natural gas and oil. Gas and oil companies have a death grip on our economy and on our government. This needs to change. Our planet is dying and we need to take steps immediately to ensure our beautiful world is around for generations to come.
Passing laws to strengthen Title IX is a good start. Along with repealing the laws that target the LGBTQ+ community, we also need to end the for-profit prison system that we have here in the state. For-profit prisons lead to discrimination in our police forces as well as in the court rooms. This leads to incentives to send more people to prison to fill jail cells for the owners. If we want to see real change in discrimination we have to start dismantling the walls between the police and the community.
