My top priority is to recognize the value of each person. The first way I will address this is to provide opportunities for every person in my District to be heard. This will involve an open door policy and frequent community meetings/town halls. Another way I hope to help our residents in Ohio feel valued is to acknowledge, respect, and uphold their opinions and decisions voiced through their vote in elections. One of my priorities is to work on healing the division in our County and State. I believe one way to do this is to help everyone feel like they are involved and represented by elected officials who care about, and understand, their needs.
I oppose purging voting rolls without just cause, such as evidence that a voter is deceased. Subjectively deciding to purge voters, without warning, is not acceptable. I would support a system of automatic voter registration. This would have to include several components, such as voter registration upon high school graduation, driver license renewal, and/or upon turning 18. Voting should not be made more difficult, such as through limited early voting, or limited ballot drop off boxes. Instead, we should emphasize and protect the right to vote. I would support making Election Day a National holiday to make it easier for voters to get to the polls.
Local and State Government should work together with employers and businesses to make Ohio an attractive area in which to start or expand their companies. One thing government can do is to inquire as to the necessary workforce that businesses will need to hire. They can then work together to ensure that there are qualified employees ready to step into the jobs. Governments can also find out from companies what their physical requirements are- near rail, hotels, water, etc. and match their needs with appropriate facilities or available land.
I think it is absolutely imperative that we protect our public education system. Children learn best in environments that are able to teach and reach them through the methods that align with their abilities and interests. All children need to feel valued and safe. Banning books, and targeting certain children to be singled out and discriminated against, are counterproductive to helping our children become their best selves. Higher education should be an environment which allows, and encourages, students to explore and expand their knowledge and interests. It needs to be a safe place for diversity, equality, and inclusion. I would like to see open-minded individuals and people who can work with others graduating from our colleges.
The state should check local government any time that it acts to violate the rights of its citizens. It should support local government when the citizens of that locale want to take action to better the lives of those in their community.
Plain and simple, healthcare is a right for every individual. No government or legislative body should be allowed to limit or violate this right for individuals to seek and obtain healthcare for themselves or their families.
It can not be denied that our environment is being impacted by climate change. Our natural resources are also in danger due to poor management and neglect. We must listen to our environmental experts and follow their lead in protecting and preserving our environment and dwindling natural resources.
The government must be the champion in protecting all persons against discrimination. Although many people talk about our "Constitutional Rights", we know that many groups of people have had to fight to have their rights recognized and protected. The government must be a partner in advocacy for all people facing discrimination.
