My focus is on a generational change that is necessary in Ohio. We must begin fighting for our future and that includes a future with strong, accountable education, healthcare that people can afford, an economic platform that will push our economy further with protections for workers. I believe in a Mental Healthcare platform that will assist individuals at all ages and put a stop to the growing crisis of poor mental health conditions. Likewise, this work will also impact Ohio's failed war on drugs. We must begin working at the local level to improve lives. Studies have continued to show that mental health is a large factor into addiction. In order to grow a prosperous state, we must take care of Ohioans. Overall, my main focus: Ohio First.
I support enacting Election Day as a state holiday (and a national holiday). I believe our elections are secure and there is little proof to show otherwise. Secretary of State, Frank LaRose, defended Ohio's election integrity with more than a 99% security rate. I believe that we must work to turn more people out in our elections. This is done by enhancing wait times on Election Day, but also installing more drop boxes across the county for absentee or mail-in ballots. I would support installing more drop boxes, with full live feed public cameras to show the voters that there is nothing devious happening.
This is a multi-spoke response and I believe we must change this. One of the largest factors is we must be able to boast about the opportunities that are here in Ohio. We continue to lose population to other states, and lose our students after graduation to jobs on the coasts. We must work at retention and building our working class -- but we also need to protect them. When businesses look at coming to Ohio, we cannot have a state in shambles. Our corrupt Statehouse and Governor leave a bad taste in the mouth of investors. Likewise, local government needs to work with businesses to reduce the tax burden as an incentive for doing business within the community.
We rank 36th in the United States for education. Our students are failing to meet achievement marks and absenteeism has run rampant. I believe that we must take the curriculum back to an accountable level, where kids at any school district are learning the same things. We have to look at where students achieve better and studies have shown that is done on paper, not computers. I believe we can use high school as a path to college credits and internships, setting students out on their best foot to achieve and benefit from Ohio's economic platform and local jobs. We must have a robust, modern and accountable education platform to meet the needs of our students and their families.
I believe the state should support local governments and continue to work with them. Instead of fighting the war on drugs solely at the state level, I believe we could benefit from the state working with local governments to fight this problem. Likewise, I believe the state should support local government on projects and economic development. I believe that local governments have the power to manage themselves, but the state has a duty to ensure that their local communities are thriving, transparent and doing their due diligence to the taxpayers.
We must work to make healthcare more accessible across the board. Whether we are looking at maternal health, child health or mental health -- Ohio has glaring problems. Over 90,000 mothers are not close to accessible healthcare, Ohioans are dying every day from an increase in suicide and teenagers are reporting depression and anxiety more than anyone has ever seen. Ohio has a health crisis and we must work to stop it. This includes implementing policies to protect our students and their mental health, working with hospitals and practitioners to expand in order to meet the needs of Ohioans and we have to combat infant health. Our black child mortality rate has skyrocketed in the past 3 years. We have to keep Ohioans healthy.
Our environment is important. Not only to the overall world, but also to us. Studies show that green spaces and parks improve mental health conditions drastically. I support the creation of new parks and sidewalks, giving space back to the next generation. I think we have to recycle and try to keep our environment the best it can be. We have beautiful spaces around our district, amazing places to take your kids and families and we must protect them. We have to do our part to keep our future clean, and I will support those positions in Columbus. I do believe the integration of solar panels, electric cars and other technological advancements have a place in Ohio. Free Markets mean Consumer Choice and we cannot penalize an open market.
Truly, I believe that the government needs to protect those who are discriminated against. This starts at the top, by treating others the way we want to be treated. My opponent continues to demean minority populations and people respond with support -- we are all Americans, and we must work together. Instead of alienating one another, we must protect our civilization. Cincinnati passed the CROWN Act, fighting back against hair discrimination. I believe laws like this can continue to level the playing field and give people a chance. Discrimination, Hate Speech and Political Violence stand no place in our country, our state or at the local level. We must continue to call out and condemn our elected officials who attack many groups of people.
