Transparency at all levels of the government – Assure citizens have access to their representatives and are aware of legislation impacting their communities/families. Citizens voices being heard – Town hall meetings/open lines of communication Politicization of our education system – Return curriculum design back to educators and remove it from the hands of politicians and political appointees. Lack of adequate mental health/substance abuse treatment and services – Work with mental health and addiction recovery boards/agencies to assure adequate services are available regardless of drugs or substances used, community location, economic status. Healthcare – Assure doctors and patients can make medical decisions without political interference
The addition of drop boxes in more locations than one in each county would make voting easier and more accessible. We should offer all citizens absentee ballots by mail. Early voting should be available the day before election day. The Secretary of State’s Office should publicize to all citizens the current voter laws and ID requirements to vote. When changes occur to voting laws, they should automatically send updates to voters from that office. We must have fair voting districts that are representative of the citizens and not biased in favor of one party over another. Redistricting must be done by citizens, not politicians, to assure that fairness occurs at all levels of elections from local up to the federal level.
We need to increase the number of people in the workforce. The unemployment level across the state is very low in most industries. Businesses that come to Ohio need to know that they will have people available to hire and should offer living wages so employees do not need second jobs to take care of their families. Ohio should work to encourage clean industries to come to the state as well to contribute to the work force.
For children to learn the factual history of this country, not an alternate narrative that lacks facts. Educators should determine curriculum, not politicians. Our education system should be run by educators and elected school board members. Vouchers should not be used to transfer funding to charter/private schools. Schools that are struggling do not benefit and cannot improve when funds are continually decreased due to students leaving those schools. Our goal should be to improve public education, not undermine and defund it. The school’s success is our children’s success. Higher education should not be controlled by politicians and politics. DEI and academic freedom have been staples of higher education and should not be removed.
State funding for local governments should occur to aid in funding for mental health, healthcare, schools, and infrastructure. This is not an exhaustive list but these are the types of programs that benefit communities and assist local governments in providing these services. Local governments should be checked whenever there are issues of inappropriate use of state funds.
Every citizen should have access to affordable healthcare as a right, not a privilege. Healthcare should cover preventative care and lower costs for medications. Women should have equal rights for medical care. Medical decisions should be based on medical needs and decisions made between patients and their physicians and families, not political agendas and laws enacted to control people’s medical care and options. Allow physicians to do their jobs without fear of prosecution. Equality should exist in medical care, regardless of gender, race, age, orientation, or medical need. Mental health treatment should be a part of healthcare and never be classified as illegal, regardless of why a person needs or seeks treatment.
We must protect our environment through legislation, if necessary, to assure that our air quality, water quality, and sanitation are protected. Climate change is real and we cannot ignore it. We need to make sure that our infrastructures are properly maintained to provide safe and healthy environments.
Our government must ensure that equal pay and job opportunities are given to all people, regardless of gender, race, color, creed, orientation, ethnicity and those with disabilities. Accessibility to jobs, promotions, transportation, training, mobility, and fair pay must be available to all people. Anywhere discrimination occurs for protected classes or others based on isms of any kind, the government must hold employers, including governmental agencies, accountable and require timely correction.
