My top priorities remain steadfast in improving the criminal justice system by making sure that all people who move through this system are held accountable for their actions, but also are provided with the opportunity to turn their lives around and not get stuck in the loop of the system. I am also focused on business development in my district by making sure that all local businesses are continued to be highlighted and given the tools they need to succeed. Housing is another crucial issue that we need to allocate more time towards, especially in my district where we just had a humanitarian crisis with one of the apartment complexes and the living conditions they had to face. We must do better and provide quality living standards.
I support policies that expands voting access and a non-partisan redistricting committee, because as an elected official we should not have sole control over the maps that elect us. Democracy is about fair elections and we should continue giving that power to the people, especially as someone who represents the people in the people’s house.
Ohio needs to focus on bringing more jobs and a competitive workforce to our state. We can do this by focusing on competitive wages, and attracting businesses to our state. For example, one of the best things that we have done is with the Intel project and how this will allow our Ohio colleges and universities to feed individuals into this company and improve our workforce.
My aspirations for K-12 and higher education is to continue working towards improving the quality of our schools by providing our public schools with fair and adequate funding, by helping our teachers by increasing their pay and to provide opportunities for our students to learn, grow and be able to have the tools necessary to grant them a successful life.
We have seen that the state has used “Home Rule” to override municipalities who are working towards fixing certain issues that affect them locally. These actions are strictly government overreach, and I believe that the state must be more limited in this approach as it ties the hands of our municipalities and city governments to act in a way that can improve the quality of life in these communities.
Everyone deserves access to high quality affordable healthcare.
We must continue to work towards a future where Ohioans equitably have access to healthy air, land, and water. The decisions that we make when it comes to our resources always have an impact, and we need to be cautious of those decisions because all Ohioans deserve an environment in which they can live healthily. Our resources in Ohio are important, including our parks and we must continue to protect these.
The government should definitely play a role to make sure that no person is discriminated against in many ways, from ensuring that our criminal justice system does not discriminate on the basis of anything, and as far as protecting those in our vulnerable communities like the LGBT+. We also must continue to put protections in place when it comes to workers to make sure that work place discrimination does not exist. Ohioans deserve equity and equality regardless of what makes them themselves.
