Infrastructure: roads and bridges, water and sewer, broadband and phone service. Healthcare: attracting more doctors, better access to specialists, support for rural clinics. Education: fair and equitable funding from the state to the children in our district. I will work with district leaders to ensure District 94 receives its fair share of state and federal funding from programs such as the federal $42.45 billion Broadband Equity and Access Deployment program, the $2.75 billion Digital Equity Act, and other programs that will not only support these priorities, but attract living wage jobs as well.
I will work to keep our elections secure, while at the same time make voting easier for everyone. We need automatic voter registration, same-day registration, reasonable ID requirements, and more to make it easier for all eligible citizens to vote. We deserve to know the source of political action committee (PAC) money. We need to reform Ohio's map-making processes so citizens, not politicians, will draw legislative district maps and make them fair, eliminating gerrymandering.
We need to create a welcoming environment for businesses, key business employees, and their families. We need to focus on what businesses and employees want: good infrastructure, accessible healthcare, good schools, and affordable housing. Businesses need trained workers; sometimes that requires working with schools and institutions of higher learning to create specialized education programs.
We need an education funding system where a child will receive the same educational opportunities regardless of where the child lives in Ohio. We need to give every young Ohioan a chance to find a well-paying job or career suited to their interests. Teachers, parents, and school districts should have more flexibility to meet the needs of individual children.
The Ohio legislature should support efforts by local governments to protect their citizens.
None of us want adults or children to suffer or die from lack of healthcare. Our government should do more to encourage preventative healthcare. We need to continue Ohio's Medicaid expansion that provides preventative and other healthcare for many families. We also need to address Ohio's shortage of medical professionals. We need to encourage more youth to become doctors, nurses, and other medical professionals and stay in Ohio.
I tremendously enjoy living in our rural Ohio district. My husband and I garden. We plant trees. We hike. We marvel at the fact that generations upon generations of people have enjoyed what our land has to offer. I want laws and policies that make sure our grandchildren and their grandchildren enjoy the same environment and natural resources that we enjoy.
The government's role is to educate people about non-discrimination laws. The more people learn about non-discrimination laws, and the reasons behind them, the better our communities will be.
