My campaign message is the Candidate for Choice in Ohio. Reproductive freedom is being attacked by the GOP and it is time for a Democratic strong man to help women in Ohio and the entire country entrenching women’s Constitutional Right for Life, Liberty and Pursuit of Happiness. The time for playing nice is over and men everywhere need to stand shoulder to shoulder with women to defend this most fundamental of freedoms.
This year in Ohio redistributing and gerrymandering is on the ballot. Republican policies for women are extremely unpopular and the only way they continue to keep their power base is to “rig” the game. Free and fair elections are always my highest priority and fairness not silencing the voice of all voters will be my crusade in the House of Representatives.
Ohio lawmakers must make it easier for all who seek to bring jobs and revenue into the state. However they must also provide a living wage and pay their fair share of the tax burden. The days of government subsidizing corporate America is over and the age of corporations must be open to labor unions and reigning in shareholders expectations. The covenant between employer and employee must be reunited in fairness and opportunity. Corporate short sightedness has lead to the separation of that mutual trust and loyalty. For the past 40 years unbridled capitalism has been the result and a work force and two generations have been deprived of the hope of achieving the American Dream.
As a former educator this is of deep importance to me. A broad spectrum of diverse education is imperative for our young citizens to compete on a global scale. Paying higher salaries for the best teachers and administrators will allow those talented individuals to enter our schools and not be lured away simply due to monetary concerns. Once in our nation we were proud to have an educated youth that could be the standard in science, engineering and math and the gold standard of all nations.
Local and state governments should be tongue in groove with respect to policies that affect their constituencies. Unfortunately tribalism has entered politics over the past decade paralyzing governance and replaced it with social wars and party politics. 2024 will be a referendum on putting that behind us and we need people like myself ready to be the next generation of outsiders not tainted by hyper partisanship.
On this issue think of me as Bernie Sanders with better hair. Universal Healthcare can be a reality if we step away from trying to negotiate with the Healthcare Industrial Complex. They are not incentivized to negotiate in good faith. Unregulated Capitalism and the Nation’s Health can not exist at the same time. I propose a separate health care system much like the free Charity Hospital System set up in the early 20th Century in Louisiana. Paid for by increasing taxes on the super wealthy and state corporations. It is a complex issue but will never be fixed trying to convince an industry to give themselves a massive pay cut.
The Age of Plastic must end. One of my initiatives would to give tax breaks to companies who eliminate or greatly reduce the use of plastic packaging and transportation/production emissions. Plastic is the number one cause of environmental damage not only on land but in our waterways and oceans. Also nanoplastics are in our drinks and water treatment facilities furthering the health issues Ohioans already suffer.
Fairness and equity . We must help create a level playing field in education, jobs and resources available understanding all of us do not start the journey from the same place. Community and citizenship takes effort from the smallest of towns to our largest cities. The zero sum game of competition must include those who have been historically left behind. We have to be leaders and recognize that the many levels of government pass legislation to incentivizes all sectors to create a stronger middle class that is attainable for all Ohio citizens. Class disenfranchisement has gone on for too many years and Columbus needs those who will bring fairness and equity so we all can cross the finish line.
