The Newton-Conover City School System is governed by a six-member Board of Education that sets policy and establishes guidelines for school operations. Board members are elected citywide in nonpartisan elections,, with three representatives coming from the City of Newton and three from the City of Conover. The Board elects the chairman and vice-chairman.At Newton-Conover, the board members decisions affected approximately 3,000 students in eight schools during the school year. Decisions made by local boards of education affect communities, families, and children. Today s children in public school classrooms will be tomorrow s leaders. Local Boards of Education literally have the future in their Collective hands.Board members are committed to setting the highest possible standards for the school system and our students. They spend many hours reviewing policies, establishing goals, studying issues, attending meetings, and determining budgets. There are four key roles for a board member: setting a vision for education in the local community; establishing a structure for everyday operations; developing a comprehensive accountability system for administrators, teachers, and students; and advocating for students and public schools. The superintendent, appointed by the Board, is responsible for the school system s administration.

I am a lifelong member of this community and a proud product of our local schools. My connection to this district, including my extensive volunteer work in our schools, gives me a strong understanding of the needs of students, families, and educators. I bring a practical and collaborative mindset, a commitment to listening before acting, and the core belief that we must make sure every student has a better experience than the last. I believe school board members should be accessible, thoughtful, and focused on what is best for students, not politics. I am ready to continue to serve with integrity, common sense, and a strong work ethic.
The most important responsibilities of a school board member are setting clear goals, ensuring fiscal responsibility, supporting strong academic outcomes, and hiring and evaluating effective leadership. Board members should represent the community, listen to parents and teachers, and make decisions that prioritize students. It is also critical to maintain transparency, uphold accountability, and ensure policies support safe, effective learning environments without unnecessary bureaucracy and red tape.
The district’s critical needs include maintaining strong academic performance, supporting teachers and staff, ensuring student safety, and responsibly managing facilities and resources. Prioritization should start with classroom instruction and student support, followed by teacher resources and operational efficiency. Every dollar should be evaluated based on its impact on students. I believe in careful budgeting, long-term planning, and making sure funds are used efficiently and transparently.
Recruiting and retaining great teachers starts with creating a supportive and respectful work environment. I want our district to be one of the most attractive places to teach in the state. That means strong mentoring and training for new teachers, protecting planning and preparation time, reducing unnecessary administrative tasks, and minimizing red tape that pulls teachers away from the classroom. When teachers feel valued and supported, students benefit.
If a Pre-Kindergarten program helps children get a strong early start in their educational journey, I am supportive of it. Early learning can improve school readiness and help students build foundational skills. Any Pre-K program should be developmentally appropriate, focused on core learning, and implemented in a fiscally responsible way that serves families and strengthens long-term student outcomes.
I am running for the school board because I care deeply about this community and its future. Our schools should reflect local values, support families, and give every student the opportunity to succeed. I believe in steady leadership, open communication, and common-sense decision making. I am committed to listening, learning, and working with parents, teachers, and administrators to keep our district strong and moving forward.

I lead and serve with integrity and transparency. I have had many years of leadership training and understanding how important it is to work with others who may have differences of opinion and/or ideas.
I currently volunteer and serve at one of the elementary schools every Monday and I am very involved in outreach ministry and children’s ministry that have many of our Newton Conover students in attendance.
I have a heart to serve and lead others, and believe that it is vital to focus on the next generation’s education and success.
I believe the most important part the school board members play is selecting the appropriate superintendent for the school systems and being fiscally responsible with the schools budgets.
A critical need for our school district would be more funding and/or better management than f the school budget.
With the talks of having a school merger and many being opposed to the idea, I would prioritize every avenue possible in managing the budget better or a way to receive more funding before a definite decision on merging schools would happen.
There are many wonderful teachers in our school district and I believe making sure they are heard and appreciated would go a long way.
I believe a pre kindergarten program would benefit the students in making sure they are prepared for their first day of kindergarten.
