US HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES DISTRICT 14

Each state receives representation in the US House of Representatives in proportion to the size of its population but is entitled to at least one representative. There are currently 435 representatives, a number fixed by law since 1911. Starting in 2024, NC has 14 members of the US House; the NC State Legislature changed the district boundaries in October, 2025. The House shares with the Senate responsibility for all lawmaking within the United States. For an act of Congress to be valid, both houses must approve an identical document. I bring a mix of experience in law, public service, and political organizing. I’ve worked on major federal campaigns—including for President Obama and Congressmembers Cheri Bustos and Ron Klein—and served as a labor organizer with SEIU Local 1199. I’m also an attorney with a background in real estate and finance, and I currently serve on the NC Democratic Party’s State Executive Committee. My campaign is rooted in making government work for working people—through affordability, accountability, and democracy reform.
My goals are simple: Cheaper groceries. Higher wages. Stronger families. In my first year, I’ll focus on tackling the cost of living by fighting corporate price gouging and reforming our tax code so billionaires and big corporations pay their share. I’ll champion a public option for healthcare, push for remote work and childcare flexibility to support working families, and protect workers’ rights as AI transforms our economy. We need a Congress that serves the people—not the powerful. I’m running to deliver just that.
To meet the challenges ahead, I’ll champion policies that reduce costs and expand opportunity—starting with free childcare, a public health insurance option, and affordable housing. As AI reshapes the workforce, I’ll push for job training, protect worker rights, and ensure tech gains benefit everyone. I’ll also fight corporate price gouging and update the tax code so the wealthy pay their share. Families need stability and a future they can count on—and that’s what I’ll work to deliver.
To reduce polarization and improve government, I support taking money out of politics, banning partisan gerrymandering, and implementing ranked choice voting because Americans deserve more than two viable parties. These reforms will make weaken extremist influence and give voters more meaningful choices. A healthier democracy leads to a more effective Congress—one that reflects the real diversity of American views and finds common ground through genuine representation rather than partisan gridlock.
I strongly support protecting our national parks, making polluters pay for environmental damage, and ensuring America leads in the global fight against climate change. One of my first political actions was organizing sustainable transportation options on my college campus, including securing a $25,000 grant for a shared bike program and launching a daily car rental service. In Congress, I will prioritize legislation that promotes clean energy, expands green infrastructure, and holds corporations accountable for environmental harm.
It is time again for America to decide what our revolution is all about. Is it merely, as has happened so many times before, one set of elites pushing out another only to advantage themselves? Or is it a new birth of freedom, where people can stand on their own two feet and chart their own way in the world?

The same people increasing the cost of living and nickel and diming us are the ones limiting our democratic ability to do anything about it. People instinctively know this is a new form of the aristocratic impulse America and the South have overcome before.

The people of the district feel it in rent that rises faster than paychecks, in childcare they can barely afford, in healthcare bills that land like a punch to the gut. They see it as opportunity pools in a few zip codes and their children are drawn away, often for good, unable to fulfill their ambitions closer to home. This year, please join me in taking a stand against this undemocratic concentration of power.

My desire to see change in society and my staunchly progressive platform. None of the other candidates, aside from one, have political experience, so many of us are new to electoral politics. Some of my opponents claim to be under the banner of progressivism, but are simply co-opting the language for political clout. I initially entered this race after speaking with one of my opponents, Brent Caldwell. When he refused to acknowledge the genocide happening in Palestine and stated that we shouldn’t blame billionaires for wealth inequality, I knew I wasn’t being represented by my party in this race. My youth and passion give me the energy to fight for the American people, and help build an all-inclusive American Dream for generations to come.
My biggest priority in my first year would be Medicare for All. The American people deserve a comprehensive, universal healthcare system that cuts out the middle man and has no profit incentive. Moderate options, like the public option, still allow for greedy insurers to squeeze working class Americans out of their hard-earned money. A single-payer healthcare system would completely remove the inhumane insurance companies that serve only to price gouge the most vulnerable among us.
I believe that repealing the Faircloth Amendment will increase the average American’s economic prospects. Housing is by far the greatest monthly expense for the average citizen. Repealing it would enable an increase in available public housing and would compete with the private market, ultimately lowering housing costs. Additionally, policies like universal childcare and free public education would further lower costs for families. I also support nationalizing utility companies, like Duke Energy, and dismantling the current energy monopolies that steal from Americans. A public option for telecommunications would provide a market-rate, high quality option to compete with AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon, pressuring them to lower prices.
Democrats and Republicans both vote for wasteful wars and support the military-industrial complex. They both consistently cut taxes for billionaires, fund agencies like ICE and DHS, and support legislation that demonizes the working poor, with policies that cut welfare and public housing. These actions make Americans' lives incredibly hard, all while their politicians accept checks from lobbyists. Working with the other side is incredibly important, and I will always be willing to do so if it concerns improving life for Americans, but not when it comes at the expense of the financial stability of my constituents. I’d rather have political polarization in Congress than destroy the lives of my constituents
The Green New Deal! Though the proposal needs more detail and specificity before being enacted, mitigating climate change and reducing environmental damage are two of my key issues. It also carries the benefits of reinvigorating the U.S. energy infrastructure, creating jobs, and, overall, pivoting the economy away from dependence on scarce resources.

I bring more than two decades of experience as a strategist, small-business advisor, and community development leader working at the intersection of economic opportunity, public policy, and civic engagement. As the founder of Womack Consulting Group and a senior leader at a community development financial institution (CDFI), I have helped design programs that expand access to capital, strengthen organizations, and deliver results for working families. My service in appointed and elected civic roles, combined with my Master of Legal Studies coursework, equips me to provide practical oversight, build coalitions, and translate community needs into effective federal policy.
In my first year, my top priority would be lowering costs for working families by restoring and strengthening Affordable Care Act subsidies and protecting Medicaid so people can access affordable, stable health care. With so many important issues facing our country, I would also work with my colleagues to push for responsible federal spending that invests in public education, workforce development, and housing affordability, while enforcing oversight to ensure taxpayer dollars actually serve communities, not special interests. These actions would provide immediate relief and set a foundation for long-term economic stability.
I will pursue economic policies that include protecting affordable health care, investing in public education and workforce development, supporting small businesses and entrepreneurs, and ensuring workers are paid livable wages. I will also push for corporate accountability by ensuring corporations pay their fair share of taxes and receive tax benefits only if they pay workers a livable wage. We cannot subsidize companies while also subsidizing their workers. People don’t need handouts; they need the ability to earn a fair wage that allows them to provide for themselves and their families. A strong economy is one where people can afford housing, plan for retirement, and feel secure about their future, not one that only looks good on paper.
To decrease polarization and improve effectiveness, I will lead with listening and transparency. In my district, I will commit to regular town halls that welcome all constituents, regardless of party, to ensure their voices inform my work. In Congress, I will work across the aisle on legislation that benefits our community. Voting with the other party is not a problem unless it requires voting against the welfare and well-being of the people I represent. Effective government depends on good-faith dialogue, practical problem-solving, and putting people over politics. My commitment will always be to ensure our youth have opportunity, working families have stability, and our seniors have security.
Yes, I will support creating incentives for AI data centers and other high-energy industries to locate in abandoned or underused manufacturing facilities that were designed to handle significant energy and resource demands, rather than placing them in residential or rural communities where they strain water, power, and land resources. This approach reduces environmental harm, prevents resource extraction from vulnerable communities, and promotes smart reuse of existing infrastructure. It also creates jobs, revitalizes legacy industrial sites, and supports innovation while protecting the health, environment, and quality of life in our communities.
My campaign is grounded in people-centered leadership, transparency, and accountability. I am focused on affordable health care, strong public education, fair wages, and responsible federal spending so every family has the opportunity to thrive. I am committed to accessible representation through open town halls, community engagement, and clear communication, because democracy works best when people are informed, heard, and involved. As federal agencies and departments are weakened or dismantled, we will need to rebuild thoughtfully. I want to be at the table asking tough questions and helping design solutions that create an economy that works for everyone, not simply restoring systems that failed, especially for middle-class families who earn too much to qualify for assistance but not enough to get ahead. We need your support and would love to have you join our team and commit to voting for LaKesha Womack as the next Congresswoman from the great state of North Carolina!
