The 5-member Board sets the policy for the county, determining the strategic vision for the county, appoints a county manager, attorney and others to serve the county, adopts ordinances, including zoning, and establishes an annual budget, which includes setting the tax rate and calling bond referendums. Commissioners are elected county-wide in partisan elections in even-numbered years; all serve staggered 4-year terms; Commissioners must reside in the district they represent.

Father of 3 children in PC Schools, local business owner, and a servant of our community for over 2 decades. A college graduate from UNCW with 20 years of service as a LEO in NC obtaining the highest level of service available. Served on numerous local boards over the last 2 decades. Tourism Board, ABC Board, Juvenile Crime Prevention Board, and the Cape Fear Fair and Expo Board. Taught for over a decade at CFCC and served as substitute teacher in Pender County Schools. This is my third attempt for County Commissioner in Pender County showing my continued dedication to our community. I have fought for years in our community for traffic relief, school safety, small government, strict building guidelines, and government transparency.
Redistricting our maps to offer fair and equal representation for all of our citizens on all sides of the community. Currently the eastside only has 2 seats representing over 30k citizens while the westside has 3 seats and over 10k less residents. This is not fair representation as currently districted.
Our Unified Development Ordinances do not represent the best interests of our community currently nor for the future. This needs to be addressed immediately. The eastside is far overpopulated, and the infrastructure cannot handle any more growth. Ordinances need to be addressed to allow the infrastructure to catch up to the current population to protect our community and its members.
The current Board of Education is in charge of operating our current school system. The Board of Commissioners should work hand and hand beginning with monthly meetings to help fund any needed projects that need attention to keep our schools safe and productive. Communication between the 2 boards should be improved and made public so that the community can regain their trust and faith in our local elected officials. Transparent meetings conducted on a regular basis will help to educate the community and rebuild their confidence in our local school system.
Would like to see a consultant firm come into our community and help initiate a healthy growth plan attracting much needed businesses to the area that are currently missing. In particular, hotels which will in return offer a hotel tax that will be put into the county budget and help to alleviate some of the financial strains we are currently experiencing.
Would also like to see the County Tourism Department grow and attract more tourism into our area by reaching outside of our area to bring in new activities and events. Possible explore adding an agricultural fairground into our community to offer larger events locally bringing in more tax dollars but not increasing our population which would strain our infrastructure further.
The current Board of Commissioners has already begun this process by approving and building a new facility for this department. Once completed it will be important to focus on educating our community on all available resources currently and then begin searching outside the box for new resources that we can bring to our community members.
Supporting our current employees, offering further training, and allowing them to explore new opportunities can only bring larger rewards to our community members.
The difference between me and other candidates is simple: I will continue serving this community, paid or unpaid, as I have for the last 2 decades. I will not disappear after this election. I have faced challenges, smear campaigns, and setbacks, but I am still here, ready to fight for every resident of Pender County east and west.
I am running because I believe in Pender County. I am invested, experienced, and passionate. I ask for your support so together we can continue building a safer, stronger, and brighter future for our families.
