BURBANK MAYOR

The Mayor of the Village of Burbank is the chief executive and conservator of peace, with responsibilities that encompass legislative and administrative duties. Unlike mayors in larger cities with substantial staff, village mayors often take a hands-on approach and may receive only a modest stipend for their services.Executive and administrative powers:Enforce laws: The mayor is responsible for enforcing all village ordinances and resolutions.Supervise administration: They oversee the village s administration and its various offices, departments, and divisions.Appoint officials: The mayor may be responsible for appointing key village officials and department heads, subject to council approval.Chief conservator of peace: This role grants the mayor powers similar to a sheriff to maintain order and suppress disturbances within village limits. They can also issue warrants and other legal processes.Manage budget: They keep the village council informed of the village s financial status and future needs.Sign official documents: The mayor signs all commissions, licenses, and permits authorized by the village council.Legislative duties:Preside over council: The mayor serves as the president of the village s legislative authority (the council) and presides over all of its meetings.Break tie votes: The mayor does not have a vote on council matters unless there is a tie.Recommend measures: The mayor can propose new measures and legislation for the council to consider.Public and civic role:Represent the village: The mayor serves as the public face of the community and acts as its spokesperson.Address citizens: They meet with residents to hear their concerns and address their needs.Serve as a figurehead: The mayor attends community events and represents the village in intergovernmental matters.Respond to emergencies: During an emergency, the mayor can act as the main point of contact, coordinating responses and providing public updates.The mayor of a municipal corporation organized under sections 705.71 to 705.86, inclusive, of the Revised Code, shall:(A) See that the laws and ordinances are enforced;(B) Recommend measures to the council for adoption;(C) Keep the council fully advised of the financial condition and future needs of the municipal corporation;(D) Prepare and submit to the council such reports as are required by that body;(E) Appoint competent, disinterested persons, not exceeding three in number, to examine without notice the affairs of any department, officer, or employee, and report the result of such examination to the mayor, and such result shall also be transmitted by him to the council without delay;(F) Perform such other duties as the council determines by ordinance or resolution.Ohio Rev.
