Why are you running for the School Board?

How will you approach decisions on controversial issues when community members have conflicting views about the actions the School Board should take?

In what order would you, as a potential school board member, place the following priorities for your district: athletics, core academic programming, extracurricular opportunities (music, art, clubs, etc.), facilities maintenance/expansion, and technology development? Please explain.

What policies or programs do you advocate that would foster a school atmosphere where everyone feels physically, emotionally, and intellectually safe?

I am running for school board to improve our children's education by purchasing new books and other learning resources. I also believe that we need to provide our teachers with a healthy work environment. I also believe we need to give our wonderful teachers a stipend so they don't have to buy school supplies for our students using their own money. I am also running to help pay off our debt of over thirty million dollars.
I believe fellow future board directors and I should approach decisions by listening to the citizens of our district and comparing the facts with the best cost, warranty, etc.
I do want to state that all of these are important parts of our school system. I would put core academic programming first as children need an education when they go out into the world. Athletics are the second most important as many children come to school and get good grades so they can play sports, but in my opinion facility maintenance and athletics are just as important because, without a well-kept facility, they can not go to school or play sports. Extra-curriculars I put them next because they foster the development of the children's education. I put technology development last because it should be in the school as a learning resource, but the others just take a higher priority.
