The background in municipal governance combined with classroom experiences give me a perspective to school systems.
I am a strong believer in public schools. I hope to bring opportunity to students as they reach for their goals. I want to help make staff feel valued.
Communication: Policy making that creates transparency and builds trust with community partners.
Teacher Retention and Recruitment: Promote mentorship programs and professional development opportunities. Provide administration with guidance on talent development.
Student Wellbeing: Provide policy to support Social Emotional Learning and reach out to local resources to support our students
The Family Consumer Science curriculum and CTC programs already exist. The School Board could increase community partnerships with local businesses and governments to increase the perspective of our students.
Todays student must be oriented to the positives and the negatives of AI and Zoom/Remote communication. They also need to develop interpersonal skills to increase their ability to empathize and analyze face to face communication.

Qualifications
I was hired as the assistant principal at Oley Valley High School in August 2023. I worked for the Schuylkill Valley School District from 2010-2023.
The skills, knowledge and experience that I hope to bring to the SV School Board is the knowledge and understanding of the world of education. I feel having educational experience (15 years) would allow me to bring a wealth of knowledge as it relates to discussing educational experiences, technology, and curriculum.
I worked for the district for 13 years, and our two daughters attend this district. Recently, I have seen amazing teachers leave or retire early, resulting in our students missing out on having those great teachers. I am running for school board because I would like to help change the culture to retain educators, especially as we face a teacher shortage. Secondly, I would like to make sure SV has top notch curriculums to give our students the best opportunities to achieve their goals.
The 3 challenges I want the board to focus on are collaborating with people and implement programs surrounding student discipline and safety, updating curriculum through identifying the best programming and data driven successes, and providing our staff with PD that will provide our students with the best teaching and mental heath strategies. In response, I would like to see the district collaborate with local agencies and the BCIU to utilize their expertise and resources.
I feel it is important to recognize and integrate real world opportunties across the K-12 spectrum. Personally, I think students should be exposed to cooking, be required to take a financial math class that discusses loans and mortgages, and other classes that help him/her develop into a productive member of society. I feel it is important to address social emotional learning in K-12.
Looking at our world, students need to be exposed to the realm of ever changing technology. AI programming and Zoom experiences have, and can provide our society with vast opportunities. I feel as an educational institution, it would not be prudent to ignore these types of things, but educate our students about how they can be used to benefit themselves and society.
