Qualifications In addition to my education and degrees, I have lived in Kutztown seven years, I have grandchildren who have graduated from KASD and I have volunteered at Trinity Lutheran church as the Treasurer as well as the student mentor program.
My life’s work has been public education. My graduate school focused on teaching and administration. In addition to teaching, I am fortunate to have been a superintendent for 18 years. I'm excited to be able to use my experience and knowledge to support Kutztown Area Schools for the benefit of students, parents and our community.
I believe my education and experience will make me an effective Director. I want to contribute to Kutztown Area Schools and provide students the education and opportunities they deserve.
School funding, hiring qualified staff and advocating for opportunities for all students will all continue to be challenges. School boards need to interact positively with the community and provide leadership advocating for educational opportunities for all students.
Schools are a community’s primary tool to provide education and experiences in all of the listed life skills. Engaging with parents and the community is essential to understanding and developing activities and courses which provide the appropriate experiences for students. School Boards should actively promote an environment that is supportive of these programs.
Providing students with the skills to navigate, learn and use emerging technologies has long been a goal of public education. Because technologies change from year to year, there are always new challenges. The role of public education is to help students develop the understanding, knowledge and skills to effectively use the new technologies in their learning.
