Education, Experience 27 years in Police work. Retired from City of Reading as Captain. Leadership education from Penn State from beginning supervisor to Chiefs level. I was also in Trade School before becoming a police officer and became a journeyman electrician. Training was 5 years and equivalent to an Associates Degree at the time of schooling.
Qualifications I have supervised all divisions of command at city of Reading Police Department. Patrol division has about 100 people by itself. Criminal Investigations and Services department. Services supervises our own dispatch center, the records department, the video safety unit, and the Reading Police Academy. At any given time Services has five police supervisors and approximately 60 other employees including civilian personnel. Services also includes the annual budget for the Police Department.
I have worked in Law Enforcement since 1998. Began promoting in 2011 and rose to Captain through competitive testing. Police departments don’t give handshake promotions. They are earned. Sometimes by making mistakes and being disciplined. I would not trade those experiences. They’ve made me a better leader. I have constantly attended training and education thru Penn State university going on an annual basis and I’ve supervised all divisions of the Reading Police Department.
1. Work with the Deputy union to get them more pay. The previous Sheriff got them from 35 to 40 hours a week paid BUT gave up 9 permanent positions to do so.

2. Increase manning in the department to cover shortages and get more permanent positions.

3. Institute promotional standards by using Police command members from surrounding departments to conduct interviews. Promotions should not be political assignments or just be a handshake to gain rank. Ill put the best people in rank positions.
The system is working. I’ve been to the gun shows and even made purchases with the mandatory backround checks. It is not the duty of the Sheriff’s department to regulate gun ownership, only to follow the law. Gun Permits from the department are only to carry concealed or hidden.

Private gun sales for handguns must be transferred legally through and FFA licensed dealer.

There is not enough room here to discuss all aspects of gun ownership. I look forward to answering your questions.
Under my direction, the Sheriffs department will follow all laws regarding immigration.

It can be rare that a Federal Agency would ask for assistance in such matters unless the person is a violent felon. If that would happen and the police department having jurisdiction refuses to help then I would offer the services of the Sheriffs Dept if asked to do so.

Personal feeling aside for all of us, Immigration laws are federally mandated and the county of Berks receives money from the government.
Education, Experience Wilson High School-West Lawn, PA, Reading Police Academy Act 120 certification, Deputy Sheriff Academy Act 2 certification (required for role of Sheriff in PA), Bachelor’s degree-Business Management, over 25 years of service working in the Berks County Sheriff’s Office.
Qualifications Progressed through every rank: Deputy, Sergeant, Captain, Chief Deputy, and currently the Sheriff. Hands-on experience in every division: Civil Service, Criminal, Gun Licensing, Warrants Division, Central Booking, Judicial Protection. Certified and legally authorized to perform all duties of the Sheriff. Proven leader managing a $12 million annual budget, office operations, and staff. Deep community involvement, with a focus on seniors, schools, public safety, and responsible gun ownership.
I am currently serving as the Sheriff of Berks County, bringing over 25 years of service to the Sheriff’s Office. I am honored to be the first woman in county history to hold this position.

Throughout my career, I have progressed through the ranks from Deputy to Sergeant, Captain, Chief Deputy, and now Sheriff. This journey has provided me with hands-on experience in every division of the office, including civil and criminal operations, warrant service, gun licensing, and judicial security.

1. I will continue to manage the Sheriff’s Office with a strong focus on being fiscally responsible with taxpayer dollars. I treat the office like a business, seeking ways to cut unnecessary spending. 2. I am committed to strengthening relationships with schools and seniors. From safety programs to scam awareness initiatives, I believe in proactive outreach that protects our community. 3. I will continue modernizing the office by investing in updated equipment, tools, and technology.
I fully support the right of law-abiding citizens to own firearms. However, I believe gun sales — including private sales and those at gun shows — should go through licensed, legitimate dealers to ensure proper background checks and accountability. Responsible gun ownership includes following the law and keeping firearms out of the hands of those who shouldn’t have them.
As Sheriff, I cooperate with federal directives regarding illegal immigration and will continue to do so. We must prioritize our resources to address needs right here—including support for abused children, seniors, those struggling with mental health, and hardworking American families. Our focus must remain on protecting our own citizens, not providing free handouts to those who are in this country illegally. I believe in enforcing the law and protecting the safety of our communities.
