Brookline Town Meeting - Pct 17 - Three Years {_getChooseLabel(this.selections.length)}

Town Meeting is Brookline s Legislative arm of government. It consists of 255 elected Town Meeting Members plus the members of the Select Board, and any state representative or state senator who resides in Brookline. In addition, the Town Moderator, who presides over Town Meeting, and the elected Town Clerk, who acts as secretary, are voting members. The 255 membersare elected by precinct, with 15 members elected from each of the Town s seventeen precincts. The members are elected for staggered, 3-year terms so that 5 members are elected from each precinct each year in the May annual town election. Depending on vacancies some precincts will have more members to be elected.Town Meeting is responsible for passing a balanced annual town budget and enacts all town by-laws. An Annual Town Meeting is held in the spring to enact the following year s budget, plus whatever other matters are placed on the Town Meeting Warrant, either by the Select Board or by citizen petition. The Annual Town Meeting is usually held the last week in May or the first week in June. A Special Town Meeting is held each fall, usually in November, to deal with any budget changes, zoning by-law amendments or other matters placed on the warrant. 65 yrs in Brookline, Raising four Lawrence and BHS graduates. Boston College Graduate and Postgraduate, English and Education majors. Teacher for 25 yrs - Grades 3 through college. JD from New England School of Law. Lawyer, serving Mass Attorney General, and Norfolk County DA. Served Brookline as Town Meeting Member for Precincts 2, 3, 7 & 17, and on Rent Control Bd, Human Relations Bd, Domestic Violence Roundtable, CDBG Committee, Housing Advisory Bd, Community Emergency Response Team, Brookline Housing Authority Community Resident Council. Women’s Commission Woman of the Year, and District Attorney award for providing community awareness and support to victims of Domestic & Sexual violence.
Currently, communication with constituents is varied and limiting. Information from and about the town appears in different forms and is machine dominant. ZOOM rules, and yet fails, true human contact in a satisfactory manner where give-and-take of ideas and trends and danger are lacking. Open Meeting Laws seem abandoned. Local meetings in Pct. 17 fit well into Coolidge Corner Library, Minot Park, and an area for new groups from Pcts 3 and 7. Personal meetings are important. Coming up are several affordable housing issues, like Harvard St., Coolidge Corner, ADU’s, lack of small business and need to be aired. I will try to bring information to my constituents and communicate with them.

Born in Brookline, I grew up in Needham, moving back to Coolidge Corner to live in my grandmother's house to attend law school (I’m a real estate attorney) and raise my children who are Brookline schools graduates. During my 12 years on Town Meeting, I’ve served on Advisory Committee, Coolidge Corner Study Committee, and worked with Brookline by Design. I've sponsored two successful warrant articles, the most recent of which in 2022 was to require design review for all new residential structures replacing demolished homes that had been found by the Preservation Commission to have been significant. I am particularly interested in real estate and commercial development issues that affect North Brookline.
Engaging with constituents helps inform me of issues important to Pct. 17 residents, and serves to inform my decision making at the time of Town Meeting votes. In issues that particularly affect our precinct, I communicate with those on an email list that I've compiled over the years. Also, our precinct has held virtual and in person meetings with other Town Meeting members and constituents that I have participated in, which have been helpful. Finally, I welcome communicating with constituents by email.

Lifelong Brookline resident having attended FRR and BHS. Former FRR PTO co-president. Married with two daughters who both graduated from the FRR school and BHS. Formerly on the board of Steps to Success. Attorney for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts for over 30 years. Town meeting member since 2014.
In order to best serve precinct constituents it’s important to be aware of the micro and macro issues effecting the town as a whole and the precinct in particular. To that end I avail myself of the many public committee meetings and discussions. At a practical level this translates into responding to constituents phone calls and emails regarding their concerns.

Brookline resident since 2003. Precincts 2 & 17 Town Meeting Member from 2016-2023. A green space advocate, I’m on the Board of Brookline Greenspace Alliance and Co-President of Friends of Hall’s Pond and also regularly volunteer in the Minot Rose Garden. I have served on the Solid Waste Advisory Committee and the Pedestrian Advisory Committee. I’m currently retired but continue to be an active poet, published at odd intervals.

Endorsed by Brookline PAX and Brookline By Design.
My responsibility to Precinct 17 is to always attend Town Meeting and cast informed non partisan votes and I did just that in my prior 7 years in Town Meeting. As an elected voter, I try to represent the community as best I can. I’m available for discussion at any time and can be reached by my email or phone. I would very much like for the Precinct 17 delegation to establish a regular organized forum for constituents to express their concerns and opinions as the Precinct is the most densely populated Precinct in Brookline and such density makes regular constituent interaction difficult.
