The most important issue facing our township is the fire department staffing. Like other townships our staffing remains a struggle. We are currently hiring and need to improve our recruitment while staying within our budget.
The biggest challenge facing our community is maintaining our rural identity while accepting growth and changes. Working closely with our zoning board and prosecutors office to enforce the zoning rules.
Just as in our own households, sometimes it is necessary to tighten the belt and live within your means.

One very important issue we need to focus on is the manpower shortage of the fire department. I feel we need to look at what might make our fire department a more appealing place to work. If we can do that, we might retain the valuable staff that we have now and attract the same in the future.
I am interested in maintaining the rural feel of our township. We need to be able to grow our township, while keeping the rural community that we have. I feel this is one of the things that draws new residents to our township. The best way to address this challenge is to take a good, hard look at our zoning regulations to make sure any changes are in the best interests of the township.
Budget cuts are always a hard and painful decision to make, but in my experience as a trustee, we had managed budget cuts from the state to our general fund circa 2010. At that time, we were not able to complete any new paving projects, but we worked hard on patching and chip/seal projects to keep the roads in the best shape possible. I also experienced budget cuts to the fire department as a trustee. We had to reduce staffing hours, and closely monitor equipment and repairs until we were able to secure additional funding via levy replacements. Budget cuts are an unfortunate reality sometimes with the rising costs of equipment, supplies, and wages. I strongly feel that, just as a household should, the township needs to live within its means, and be financially responsible to residents.
