As a lifelong Wisconsin resident, I understand the importance of growing our economy while preserving the traditional qualities that make the North a great place to live. We need to protect our clean water and natural resources, repair our health care system, guarantee women’s access to reproductive care, rebuild excellence in public education and develop sustainable jobs.

Most of my 30+ year career was spent working with non-profits and government agencies to develop programs and project funding. My experience includes housing, child care, teen pregnancy prevention, healthcare access and employment. I also served on the Washburn County Board, which gave me insight into how government affects lives at the local level.

My most valuable political experience was working as a Constituent Services Aide for Senator Russ Feingold. My job entailed helping constituents cut through red tape to solve problems related to health care, housing, disability benefits and employment issues.
There is a shortage of affordable housing stock in Northern Wisconsin, both to rent and to buy. Rural Wisconsin has unique housing needs, due to the distribution of our population.

-Because most of the population lives in sparsely populated areas rather than cities or large towns, there is a lack of multi-unit rental properties.

-Much of the single family housing stock is aging, requiring renovation or replacement of heating and sanitary systems.-Senior citizens wishing to downsize from larger, desirable homes are not selling because there are limited senior-friendly properties available.

- I would support initiatives to build properties suitable for seniors-duplexes, four plexus or townhouses. This would free up existing housing stock.

-Incentives or assistance to repair workout, energy inefficient heating or water systems would keep or return older but salvageable single family homes to the housing stock.
A non-partisan, independent commission should be put in place to draw district boundaries. The process needs to be enshrined in the State Constitution to ensure continuity and fairness, regardless of which party controls the legislature in the future.
I would support initiatives to guarantee access to clean, drinkable water.

-This would include measures to reduce and measure phosphate runoff and to test and mitigate affected contaminated wells.

-Ongoing initiatives to monitor and address PFAS contamination are crucial.

-The removal of water from the water table for the purpose of bottling and selling needs to be more closely monitored.

-It is critical to restore funding and thus increase staffing levels to the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR.) Staff biologist positions must be restored to formulate policies that will be needed to respond to the effects of climate change and invasive species. Staffing levels for wardens must be increased, as enforcement is nearly impossible at current levels.

-Initiatives to protect the Great Lakes from pollution and drainage are crucial. As the largest source of fresh water in the country, they are critical drivers Wisconsin’s economic and environmental health.
The broad answer is funding levels for public school, from the primary through the college level, need to be increased. Primary and secondary schools need to be able to hire aides and paraprofessionals, school counselors and librarians in addition to classroom teachers. Our colleges and technical colleges need to be able to offer affordable tuition and updated curriculum to meet the rapidly changing needs of the modern workforce.

-I would support initiative that assist teachers and promote excellence - competitive salaries and benefits, classroom supplies, licensing standards, a curriculum that includes arts and music in addition to science and math.

-Special education Services and programming in public schools are currently only funded at around 30%. I would support 100% funding to provide equitable educational opportunities for all students.
