The most pressing housing-related issue in Wisconsin is the severe shortage of affordable housing. Rising rents and home prices strain many families, particularly low- to moderate-income earners. Insufficient funding for homelessness prevention worsens this crisis. To address these challenges, we need to boost incentives for affordable housing development and cap private equity ownership. This means building new units and maintaining existing homes through rehabilitation programs. Expanding rental assistance programs can provide immediate relief to those struggling with housing costs. We can also implement zoning reforms that require new developments to include affordable housing units. By adopting these measures, we can address the housing crisis and promote economic fairness in Wisconsin.
The legislature should establish a permanent, independent, and nonpartisan commission to oversee the drawing of legislative and congressional district maps. This commission should be composed of people not affiliated with any political party to prevent gerrymandering and partisan bias. Redistricting criteria should prevent minority vote dilution, ensure districts are contiguous and compact, and avoid unnecessary splitting of municipalities and communities. Additionally, the process should be transparent, with opportunity for public input and oversight. The commission should leverage technological advancements made in recent years alongside demographic data to guide decisions. By creating a commission that utilizes these measures, we can uphold the integrity of our democratic system and ensure that every vote counts equally, and the will of the people is represented in Madison.

Ensuring our schools have the resources to improve student outcomes, including those with disabilities, is critical. We must increase and equitably allocate public school funding to ensure every student receives a world-class education. Investing in modern classroom technology and tools is essential for an environment that meets diverse learning needs. Increased funding also enables smaller class sizes, allowing for personalized attention and effective support. Hiring and retaining specialists proficient in disability education is crucial for targeted support. Supporting our educators is vital; teachers deserve competitive salaries that reflect their critical role in society and help prevent brain drain. Adequate financial incentives for continuing education and certifications will enhance their ability to effectively teach diverse student populations. Let’s create an educational system that supports and provides every student with the opportunity to thrive!
