I support and encourage good paying jobs for Northern Wisconsin workers. As someone who was born and raised in Ashland it saddened me when I had to leave the area many years ago to seek work in Minnesota. And now I see my Grandchildren leave this area going to the Fox river Valley area to seek a better a life. This leaves me to reason that nothing has changed or just not enough. Seasonal jobs are great entry level positions to get people started in the workforce but we need more businesses up North that hire full time employees and provide benifits.
Support more low income housing for people who have jobs but just don't earn enough to get ahead
No opinion at this time.
Initiatives that support our woodlands and Forest Industry. This is a renewable resourse that supports our recreation industry and provides material for numerous products used in every day life. To include Xcel's power plant in Ashland which uses only wood chips to provde electricity for the citizens in the area.
We need to ensure our children are provided with information and tools to aid them in entering into a successful life after school. That's why I'm a big supporter of Vocational Schools and employers that provide On the Job Training.

My number one priority is that we begin to get real, tangible results for the people of this state to show that government can be a force of good in our lives. We'll do this through democratic processes and good governance so that we can give people a reason to believe in democracy. It's time to fix our funding formulas for public schools and shared revenue; protect our environment through sound regulations; legalize abortion and expand Medicaid; and develop creative solutions to address the scarcity of available, secure housing.
The cost of housing has far outpaced incomes in our region. We have to consider all options to make housing more affordable. This might include increasing subsidies for builders, taxing short-term rentals at a higher rate, creating more land trust properties, or creating more incentives for retrofitting existing buildings into residential spaces.
We should have a non-partisan, permanent solution to redistricting. I would prefer that a non-partisan independent group draw our state and federal lines. I would also like to see us count incarcerated people as members of their home districts, not where they are incarcerated.
We need to start strictly regulating PFAS and PFOS chemicals; we should have extremely strict scrutiny for any and all potential threats to our watersheds (e.g. CAFOs, pipelines, mines, etc.); we need to reassess our relationship to all power plants, including determining whether the incentive structures developed in the 20th Century still make sense; we should aggressively subsidize the move to renewable energy and the cost for retrofitting and weatherizing existing buildings; and we should provide as many supports as possible for sustainable farming practices and local food systems.
Wisconsin is a state with a long and storied history of robustly supporting our public schools. We need to return to that core value. We'll do this by ending the subsidization of private schools, reimbursing the costs of special education at 100% for all public schools, and thoroughly assessing the gap between what schools need to run effectively and the extent to which we're funding them. Schools need counselors, social workers, and paraprofessionals to meet our kids' needs in addition to updated infrastructure to ensure that kids are learning in and staff are working in safe, healthy environments. From high-quality preschools to tech colleges and the UW-System, we owe it to our children and to the dedicated professionals who devote their lives to teaching to do what it takes to have a world-class public school system. This is a Wisconsin value. Our legislature needs to start acting like it.
