I’m a former federal prosecutor, I’ve fought against voting restrictions, and I’ve led the Wisconsin Department of Justice (DOJ) for over seven years.

My top priority as AG has been and will continue to be public safety. Wisconsin DOJ should continue working to reduce violent crime, fight the opioid epidemic, and make our schools safer. In another term as AG, I will continue advocating for common-sense gun-safety measures and additional resources that can help make communities safer.

Wisconsin DOJ should also continue being a watchdog for Wisconsinites against special interests and others who harm consumers, taxpayers, or our natural resources and standing up against federal government actions that violate the law and harm Wisconsinites.
I’m committed to protecting Wisconsinites’ freedoms, including reproductive freedom and the freedom to vote, and my record shows that. My administration obtained a ruling last year from the Wisconsin Supreme Court that makes clear that abortions are not broadly banned in Wisconsin by a law dating back to the mid-1800s. My administration has also effectively stood up for democracy, including by successfully defending the outcome of the 2020 presidential election in Wisconsin in court.

We need to continue to have an AG we can count on to take on tough fights and stand up for all Wisconsinites. In another term as AG, I will remain committed to taking action when appropriate to fight for Wisconsinites’ rights.
The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) is a critical civil rights law. In 2023, I joined a coalition of AGs in supporting the adoption by the U.S. Department of Justice of requirements for state and local government web content and mobile app accessibility.

If the federal government adopts a policy that weakens the ADA in a manner that harms Wisconsinites and there is a strong legal basis for challenging it, Wisconsin DOJ should challenge that policy. The progress that has been made in protecting equitable access and opportunity for people with disabilities should not be reversed.
I support policies that both make our communities safer and make our criminal justice system fairer, and I believe that more can and should be done to prevent crime before it happens. I support increased investments in community policing and prosecution, violence prevention efforts, reentry programs, mental health and veterans courts, mental health crisis response teams, and treatment for substance use disorder.
Wisconsin DOJ’s investigative and prosecutorial resources should be used to protect the public as effectively as possible, with decisions about specific cases made based on the facts and law. Under my leadership, Wisconsin DOJ has investigated and/or prosecuted serious criminal activity, including homicides, sexual assaults, internet crimes against children, and drug trafficking.

Wisconsin DOJ should generally join multistate cases against the federal government when the action at issue is harmful to Wisconsinites and there’s a sound legal basis for the case. Multistate cases my administration has joined have, among other things, prevented significant amounts of federal funds from being frozen, cut, or subject to unlawful conditions.
