I am a waitress, small business owner and nonprofit leader who grew up on a 6th generation Wisconsin dairy farm. I understand the challenges facing Wisconsin's small towns and rural communities because I’ve lived them. I’ve seen seniors ration their medicine and forego dental care, farmers like my parents have to sell our land and cows, and small business owners struggle – just like me. While Washington is filled with extremists who care more about power than working people, I will never forget who I represent. I’ll stand up for us to deliver affordable and accessible healthcare, lower costs for families, and protect our farmland and our democracy. In Congress I will: - Protect Social Security - Defend and improve the Affordable Care Act - Expand the $35 insulin cap for everyone and limit the cost of high demand medication - Protect the right to vote, ban gerrymandering, and reduce the influence of money in our elections - Put farmers first and deliver for our family farms
Improving healthcare access of all kinds in Wisconsin is imperative, as we have seen several of our hospitals close and care get more expensive and inaccessible. On reproductive freedoms especially, we have to be on offense after the repeal of Roe v. Wade. I believe that healthcare is a human right and every person should be able to make the best decision for themselves about if, when, and how to start or grow a family free from political interference. In Congress, I will always protect healthcare access and the reproductive freedoms of all Wisconsinites. You can count on me to: - Codify Roe vs. Wade into federal law - Invest in our healthcare system, keep our hospitals open, and ensure affordable accessible care is available for every Wisconsinite - Expand Medicare to cover vision, dental and hearing - Advocate for ending the Hyde Amendment, which prohibits abortion coverage for individuals on Medicaid or Medicare - Support federal programs that increase access to family planning
I support comprehensive immigration reform. For far too long, undocumented workers and families have been a vital part of our labor force, paying into a system for which they don’t see any of the benefits. We need to secure the border while also creating a fair pathway to citizenship. Earlier this Congress, a bipartisan deal emerged to protect the border and to guarantee a pathway to citizenship, before it was killed by far right extremists who wanted to use this issue to score political points, instead of solve problems. We must do better, and we can do better by electing more servant leaders focused on delivering for working families, protecting the border, and reforming our immigration and asylum system.
I know the economy is not working for Wisconsin families. I am currently working three jobs – including as a waitress – to pay the bills. I will fight to hold corporations accountable at the gas pump and grocery store for runaway prices, raise wages, prioritize tax cuts for middle class families not CEOS, and bring more affordable housing to our community. I would also work to: - Pass the Protecting the Right to Organize (PRO) Act - Raise the federal minimum wage to $15/hour - Bring down exorbitant healthcare costs, and ensure equitable access for all Wisconsinites - Expand federal community block grants that offer dollars for affordable housing projects, particularly in rural communities in west central Wisconsin - Enact the Expanding Childcare in Rural America (ECRA) Act to help struggling families get access to the childcare they need - Address supply chain breakdowns driving up costs and give farmers back the right to repair their own equipment
From hosting roundtables in rural corners of this district and downtown discussions in Eau Claire, La Crosse or Point, it’s clear that climate change and the environment are top of mind for constituents – no matter where they live. We have a front row seat not only to the impacts of climate change, but an ability to influence it. In Congress I will: - Draw federal funds for investment in green energy projects that harness our natural resources like wind, solar, hydro, and nuclear energy. All the while ensuring that as we build new clean infrastructure, we’re relying on union workers to build our future - Work with regional stakeholders and policy makers to rapidly address the PFAS issue in our water – including more federal dollars for testing, remediation and research for communities of all sizes - Forge relationships and coalitions with Wisconsin farmers to address issues with run-off that directly impacts water ways creating issues with nitrates and algae blooms
