Preserving reproductive freedom & access to health care for women; Protecting democracy; environmental sustainability; climate change; affordable housing; affordable childcare I have worked for local, county, regional & state agencies during my professional career. I was also elected to serve 3 terms as an alderman for my community, Delafield
Affordability is the most pressing issue. I would identify obstacles to building affordable housing such as zoning & development ordinances. Also examine alternative financing mechanisms & use of unused facilities for housing conversions
One that employs independent consultants who use demographics & natural or manmade features to delineate boundaries. I have a special understanding of this process since I created school district boundaries balanced for age & race for Indianapolis Public Schools. The process must include complete neutrality & transparency to ensure districts make sense geographically & demographically
Use both state & local regulations to preserve sensitive environmental areas, provide taxing strategies that encourage preservation of farmlands for growing locally consumed food products. Strife for renewable energy sources by removing any unreasonable barriers to local development of sustainable energy. Also identify the magnitude of PFAS chemicals on both our surface & groundwater & then implement mitigation measures
Provide adequate revenues based on district needs & special education services. Districts with higher numbers of disabled children should receive supplemental funding from new revenue sources (such as those generated by legalizing & taxing marijuana sales). Also state funding should fill the gaps which necessitate frequent school district referendums. For outcomes, students who are not meeting expectations should have intervention of professional staff teams with proven track records of improving student outcomes
