Personal Pronouns She/her
Remove the government from making decisions about abortion. We need to trust women to make their own health care decisions. I believe in second amendment rights. We need to keep guns from people who would harm themselves or others. I want to pass gun safety legislation - red flag laws, background checks, requiring gun locks. Public education is under attack and teachers wages have dropped 13% in the past 10 years. I support public schools! We need to have informed citizens for democracy to work. I want to see the State provide adequate resources and promote local control. We need to make it easier to vote not harder. Childcare, housing and health care are unaffordable for struggling families and we need to find ways to keep spending low. From making our school buildings accessible for people with disabilities, to bringing sewer service to our neighborhoods, I have a proven record of bringing people together to solve tough problems.
Homelessness. It always breaks my heart to see people on the streets. I support social programs such as job training and education that lead to people becoming self sufficient so they can afford housing.
I support having an outside non-partisan commission to create fair maps. There are even computer models available that can work. Anything that will work to keep our State Legislature from gerrymandering the lines like the Republicans did in 2010.
We need clean water, clean air and we need to clean up PFAS. Wish we could find ways to reduce packaging and waste. I support recycling and composting as ways to reduce landfills.
We need to fully fund special education with a combination of state and federal fund. The goal should be to get kids out of the special education programs and back integrated in with their peers instead of lowering our expectations for our special needs kids. The per pupil allowance that determines how much state money is paid to each school district needs to go up according to the cost of living so schools can keep up. Teachers deserve to have unions again to bargain for competitive wages, working conditions and benefits. Investing in teachers would have a positive impact on learning in the classroom and making sure they have adequate resources and up to date curriculums too. I would love to find a way to stop making a political football out of public education and build the public will to invest more money. Voucher schools are not the answer to improving public schools. We can invest in reading programs to make sure all students can read by 3rd grade.
