I want to help with getting the resources to assist those in need. Help with our public schools, healthcare system, and child care. I feel like all three have been under attack and underfunded for too long and need a pretty massive overhaul to make sure we can provide the best support in these and other areas to help the majority of Wisconsinites. I recently was elected to the school board here in Fond du Lac and getting into the budgeting for the school gives additional insight on the scope of what's needed to help our kids get the best education. There are steps we can and should take to assist working families with childcare and free people up to rejoin the workforce. We also need to bring down the costs of healthcare and help keep everyone as healthy as possible.
Affordable housing is a major challenge that needs to be addressed. People either need more money so they can purchase a home or more affordable ones need to come onto the market. If they're not coming to market, they need to be built. One issue that has bothered me is this proliferation of speculators buying the more affordable ones and just using them for rental properties instead of allowing families to have their own home. I don't know what can be done to fix it but it's something I'd like to look into.
Redistricting should be independent of the legislature. I don't think they're able to do create the districts for fair representation rather than creating something that will keep an advantage to the majority party. We've seen this happen a few times already.
I'd try to take in as much information as possible about the challenges and try to follow the science on what we need to do for sustainability.
We can't keep having districts go to referendum for general funding. We need to have proper funding for our schools so we can support the best education possible for our students.
