Government Experience-elected or volunteer (e.g. committees) 8 years as Trumansburg Mayor, 11 years prior as Trumansburg Village Trustee
I am running for reelection to continue the work of my past two terms - to further strengthen the Village of Trumansburg's position as one of the premiere small communities in the Finger Lakes.
With nearly twenty years in local government - and as Chair of the Greater Tompkins Health Insurance Consortium, past chair of the Tompkins County Council of Governments, and current chair of the Three Falls Local Development Corporation - I have a deep, firsthand knowledge of the inner workings of not just local municipalities, but also of the important interrelationship between government and the private and non-profit sector.
Affordability is always at the top of the list of local challenges. Not just housing affordability, per se, but how a community like Trumansburg can maintain the services that residents and visitors have come to expect. With constant cost escalations in all municipal departments, the burden on local taxpayers is always a concern.
Providing quality services - police, fire, EMS, water/sewer - is the bedrock of a stable community. Managing budgets responsibly in order to keep these services in strong form is the effort. In addition, looking for assistance from federal, state, and county government is always needed.
When I first became mayor in 2018 we significantly ramped up our external communications capacity, including live streaming of all board meetings (well before Covid made this a common thing to do), web and social media based news posting, and open social media "town hall" style forums. This is on top of our regularly scheduled board meetings and our annual State of Village open forum. We will continue to makes these avenues of communication open to residents as well as consider any new platform that might present itself.
