What is the most important issue facing Eau Claire County and how would you address it?
What is the second most important issue facing Eau Claire County and how would you address it?

What are your two top priority areas of concern in the upcoming budget and how would you address them?
Maintaining infrastructure and services in the county. There are many structures, such as bridges, roads, dams, park areas, as well as facilities such as the courthouse, jail, court rooms, highway services and offices which need care. In addition, emergency planning and safety such as law enforcement expenses are ongoing.
While the Legislature in the State of Wisconsin recently increased shared revenue with the County for the first time in years, it was not nearly enough to keep up with costs of services. Property taxpayers should not have to shoulder all of the increased costs of State-mandated services. Human service costs are very high but the State doesn't begin to cover all of the required costs. That must change.
Trust in government has eroded over the last decade and it is extremely important to operate government openly and transparently for citizens. Boards and commissions must operate meetings and obey all open records laws.
Issue one deals with maintaining services with increasing costs. Priorities, based on citizen input, must influence any cuts. Another issue is educating businesses and citizens what the true cost of support for housing, business TIF districts, and other community efforts cost and work together in meeting those needs.
