I believe the most important issues facing Chippewa County right now is the access to healthcare. We the news of HSHS and Prevea pulling out of western Wisconsin, we will start to feel the negative affects very quickly. I would address by pushing our legislature to approve Medicare expansion and to solve the crisis of rural hospital closures. Thankfully, local governments are cooperating with each other and with the remaining health services to help alleviate this ongoing crisis.
I believe access to quality mental health services is the second most important issue in Chippewa County. I have already begun to address this on the board by giving my own past experiences with mental health and also by approving the creations of more social work positions in our Human Services department. I will always be an advocate for expanding services related to mental heath.
I believe the third most important issue facing Chippewa County is letting voices be heard and to protect those who are most vulnerable in our community. As an ally to the LGBTQIA+ community, I have heard the stories of injustice, bullying, and violence against those in the minority in society. Also, we are facing a new epidemic of racism due to the coming of refugees into our area. I stand in support of helping those in need and I will never vote to not allow those in need to not come into our community.
My two top areas of concern in our next budget is of course going to be health and human services funding. Now more than ever these two departments will be needed to help protect and ensure the health of our County. As a member of the Health and Human Services Board, I will continue to advocate and promote these two departments and push for any possible funding available. The health and safety of our community is and forever will be one of my top priorities.
