Description of office: The General Assembly is the legislative branch of government in Pennsylvania. It is composed of two houses: the Senate is the upper house, and the House of Representatives is the lower house. A majority vote in both houses is necessary to pass a law. The PA House of Representatives consists of 203 members representing one district each, with an equal number of constituents. Representatives must be at least 21 years old, have been a citizen and a resident of the state four years and a resident of their respective districts one year before their election, and shall reside in their respective districts during their terms of service. The House develops budget packages, makes taxation decisions, allocates spending, and passes laws (including redistricting in collaboration with the Senate). The House also has the exclusive authority to impeach public officials. Representatives also serve on various policy committees that may propose legislation. 1) Our legislature is one of the highest-paid in the nation, & has no term limits. I propose limts of 10 & 12 years for the State House & Senate respectively, as well as making the General Assembly's pay dynamic with PA's the average household income.
2) Middle class tax burdens need to be alleviated. I propose creating more income tax brackets for our highest earners, to lessen the gas tax, property tax and more.
3) Moving into greener energy without energy companies lobbying us out of it. I propose grants to green energy companies to aid in developing renewables, as well as tax incentives for the established fossil fuel companies for that purpose. This will help make green energy more viable & available, & will create jobs.
I'm a supporter of voter ID, but I want the State to provide, for free, a voting ID to all registered voters who don't have an ID for whatever reason. I'm also a proponent of supporting our immigrants on their path to citizenship, so that they can become legal, voting citizens as soon as possible.
Public money is for public schools, period. I support the availability of private schools, but public money is for public services. Through higher taxes on our highest-earners and biggest corporations, as well as re-allocation of funds from overfunded things, (such as legislator pay, as noted earlier) we can & will fully fund & support our schools.
My only comment on abortion is that it's none of my business, & the government has no right to interfere in reproductive (or any kind of) healthcare. I support this being a decision left to be made between women, their doctors, their closest confidants and their own personal conscience.
