1. If elected, what are the two most critical issues you would like to see addressed in our city in the first 2 months? In the next 2 years? Why?

2. What should our city be doing now to help solve the solid waste (trash) crisis facing the entire county? Please discuss regarding reduction, recycling, and reuse of waste in our city.

3. Since effective responses to worker housing needs require both municipal and county levels of government, what policies should our city consider to help solve the affordable housing problem?

4. If property taxes were eliminated or significantly reduced by the state legislature, how would you determine which city services would need to be reduced? What ideas would you promote to make-up budget shortfalls?

5. What have you done or plan to do to actively involve or engage all residents in the decision- making process for shaping the future direction of the city so there is a greater feeling of unity in the community?

In the First 2 Months: Public Safety and Neighborhood Security – I would immediately work with our Police Department, city staff, and community leaders to review and strengthen neighborhood watch programs, traffic enforcement in high-risk areas, and rapid response to quality-of-life issues like loitering and speeding. Sunrise deserves to feel safe for our children, seniors, and families walking our streets. Flooding and Stormwater Preparedness – With our rainy season and hurricane risks, I would push for an immediate assessment and accelerated maintenance of our drainage systems and canals to prevent the flooding that affects so many homes and businesses.
Waste Reduction (The Most Important First Step) We must reduce the amount of waste we create in the first place. I will push for: Stronger public education campaigns teaching residents simple habits like using reusable bags, buying in bulk, and avoiding single-use plastics. Incentives for businesses and HOAs to cut packaging waste. City policies that encourage “zero-waste” events and reduce unnecessary paper and plastic use in city operations. Every ton we don’t generate saves money and protects our landfill space. Recycling – Make It Easier and Cleaner Sunrise already offers curbside recycling and a convenient 24/7 drop-off location. We need to build on that: Fully support the rollout of larger 65-gallon recycling carts and any reward prog
Partner Aggressively with Broward County and State Programs Sunrise cannot solve this alone. I will advocate for full alignment with county initiatives that leverage funding from Florida’s Sadowski Affordable Housing Trust Fund, federal Low-Income Housing Tax Credits, and Broward’s housing strategies. This includes actively pursuing joint applications for grants and streamlining local approvals for county-supported projects. 2. Incentivize Development of Mixed-Income and Workforce Housing Offer targeted density bonuses, expedited permitting, and fee reductions for developers who include a meaningful percentage of units affordable to teachers, first responders, healthcare workers, and other essential employees earning 60–120% of Area Median
Rather than just cutting, I would aggressively pursue alternatives: Economic Development & Growth — Attract responsible businesses and new development through targeted incentives, streamlining permits, and partnerships that expand our tax base without raising rates on existing residents. Efficiency and Consolidation — Eliminate waste, consolidate overlapping services with Broward County where logical, and leverage technology for cost savings in administration and operations. User Fees & Partnerships — Explore reasonable, usage-based fees for certain non-essential services (e.g., premium recreation programs) while keeping core services affordable. Expand public-private partnerships for parks, events, and maintenance.
Actively participated in community events, the Citizen Police Academy, and local organizations to hear directly from families, seniors, business owners, and new residents. Helped coordinate volunteer efforts and outreach through M.O.M. (Moms of Military Personnel), focusing on listening to diverse voices across our city. Regular Community Forums & Town Halls — Host quarterly “Sunrise Speaks” sessions in different neighborhoods (including evenings and weekends) with live streaming and translation support so every resident can participate. Neighborhood Advisory Committees — Create or strengthen resident-led groups representing diverse areas, HOAs, apartments, and cultural communities to provide ongoing input on key decisions like development
