Texas ranks 44th in school lunches under current leadership. Texans should feed Texans year-round. I’ll prioritize Texas-grown meat, produce, and whole foods over ultra-processed options, giving our children better nutrition while creating dependable revenue for Texas farmers and ranchers. Better food means healthier kids and a stronger Texas. Food should make our children healthier, not sicker.
What we eat impacts our health, and agriculture is at the tip of the spear. From day one, my campaign mantra has been “Grow Food Better, Grow Better Food.” Ultra-processed foods now make up 57% of the average American’s calories, this must change. I’ll champion cleaner, more nutrient-dense food, greater transparency, and Texas agriculture that helps build healthier Texans.
Biosecurity is national security. Texas must detect threats early, respond quickly, and work closely with federal and state animal-health experts. On New World Screwworm, we need proven solutions, not publicity stunts. I’ll strengthen surveillance, coordinate with USDA, and make sure ranchers and farmers have the information and resources to protect their operations.
I’m very concerned about data centers. Growth must work for Texans, not against them. Farmers and ranchers cannot be expected to sacrifice the water that produces our food to private development. Data centers must have responsible plans for water and electricity use, invest in needed infrastructure, protect local communities, and certainly should not receive tax subsidies.
I grew up working on my family ranch, researched water and agriculture policy, and serve as the Texas Farmers Union Secretary. I know agriculture from the pasture to public policy.
I will fight for free school meals for every child and defend summer food assistance. I will work to replace ultra-processed school foods with healthy meals sourced from Texas farmers and expand school community gardens. I will also allow qualified nonprofits to use school kitchens to prepare meals for children when school is out.
I will use the Texas Department of Agriculture to improve the food Texans eat by strengthening food safety, removing harmful chemicals and highly processed foods from school meals, and rebuilding local food systems. I will also use the State Office of Rural Health to expand access to affordable healthcare in rural communities.
I will use every proven tool available to protect Texas agriculture from invasive pests and disease. For New World Screwworm, I support combining sterile flies with SWASS rather than relying on one method alone. I will also push to maintain permanent response capacity so Texas can act quickly when the next biological threat emerges.
I will put Texas agriculture and our water supply ahead of irresponsible data center development. Data centers should not compete with farmers, ranchers, or families for drinking water. I support requiring sustainable water plans, protecting farmland and aquifers, and using brackish or other non-drinking water for responsible projects.
