FWCS School Board District 4

Indiana has over 290 separate school corporations that are responsible for educating children from kindergarten through grade 12. A local public-school corporation is established under Indiana law and has separate taxing authority as a unit of local government. The Board writes and approves policy for the district, approves all personnel hires, fires, etc., hires and evaluates the superintendent, and approves any financial decisions/purchases over $5000.

Current Employment Program Chair of Legal Studies at Ivy Tech Community College; Of Counsel Law Office of Travis J. McConnell
Education B.A in Sociology; MA in Adult and Community Education; JD in law, Ed.D Adult Community and Higher Education
I bring experience in education, law, public service, and community leadership. As an attorney and college educator, I have experience analyzing laws and policies, developing curriculum, evaluating programs, and advocating for students. My education includes a J.D. and an Ed.D. in Adult, Community, and Higher Education. I also bring firsthand knowledge of FWCS as a graduate, parent, former substitute teacher, and current Board Trustee. These experiences allow me to approach decisions thoughtfully, ask important questions, and remain focused on providing all students with the resources and opportunities they need to succeed.
Parents, teachers, students, administrators, and taxpayers should all have meaningful opportunities to help shape district policy. Each brings a different and valuable perspective that deserves the opportunity to be heard. Including stakeholders in major policy decisions strengthens our district and ensures that those impacted by the policies help guide the decisions.
I would strengthen district policy on stakeholder engagement and communication. Significant changes affecting students and families should include meaningful input from those impacted before decisions are finalized. A consistent process for gathering feedback would increase transparency, strengthen trust, and help the District make better-informed decisions.
