Maximize in-region processing to take pressure off the U.S. - Mexico border. At least an additional 700 immigration judges/staff to clear the backlog of over 3 million pending cases. Prompt path to citizenship for Dreamers who as children could have no criminal intent. De-emphasize penalties. More rapid access to work permits as U.S. needs (particularly farming and construction where needed), & as is safe & reasonable, to reduce financial burdens. Update ceilings for most categories to avoid inefficient backlogs. Reduce or eliminate harsh, unnecessary penalties such as ten-year bans. Policy of not separating families and children. Humanitarian shelter as needed (i.e. not cages).
Yes. FEMA and our insurance system are already challenged, and the number and costs of weather disasters are increasing. We need to contain the costs of weather-related disasters by being proactive to prevent them, thinking ahead, hardening structures and environments to avoid tragedies to life and excess costs to restore after natural disasters.
This is a hard question because the people in our District have various priorities, and I intend to work diligently to achieve many of them. One of my top priorities is to address a group of issues related to budgetary constraints, so we can pay down the national debt while fully funding all vital programs such as Social Security, infrastructure renewal, veteran's and homeless programs, etc. Please go to sandykennedyforcongress.com for more. Another top priority is securing and protecting the constitutional rights of all citizens, equally, including but not limited to their lives, health, opportunities, and respect as persons. This also includes protecting our water, air and food.
Yes. Voting fairness, accuracy and accountability is demanded by all parties, regardless of individual beliefs. Federal voting rights legislation will help us heal from the disputes of the 2020 election. Standardization is needed to avoid conflicts in federal ballot scheduling, avoid duplicate voting and voting in the wrong state, increase and protect voting rights of all citizens, among other issues. Florida overwhelmingly voted to restore voting rights of felons, yet that goal was thwarted. How much money a person is able to pay should not affect their voting rights.

Yes. Abortion bans have severe unintended consequences, preventing and obstructing women from getting necessary health and life saving medical care. Women's and girls' lives come first. Choice is important, especially early on. The bans are overbroad and criminalize innocent efforts to receive medical care, as well as criminalizing proper professional medical care. Absolute bans cannot be made safe, because women have health problems both early and late in pregnancy. Government should not be involved in medical decisions. Any goals of increasing births must be addressed through positive means--support, incentives, help--rather than punitive means. Women's and girls' constitutional rights cannot be upheld while abortion bans exist.
