EACS School Board District 2E

Indiana has over 290 separate school corporations that are responsible for educating children from kindergarten through grade 12. A local public-school corporation is established under Indiana law and has separate taxing authority as a unit of local government. The Board writes and approves policy for the district, approves all personnel hires, fires, etc., hires and evaluates the superintendent, and approves any financial decisions/purchases over $5000.

What are the skills and experience you will bring to the board?

What role should parents, teachers, students, administrators, and taxpayers have in developing district policy?

If you could add or change one district policy, what would it be, and why?

Current Employment retired educator
Education Master's in Education
The experience I bring to the school board would be 35 years as an educator, parent, resident/taxpayer, active community member, former Coach, tutoring students, Currciulum Writer, Curriculum Adoption Lead, Lions Club Member, and Missions Lead at our church and all of this is within our EACS district.

The skills mostly came from the experiences above: problem-solving, data analysis, collaboration, understands policy implementation, good communicator, organized, and the most important when working on a team with others is compassion and empathy.
When it comes to policy creation, ALL stakeholders roles should be respectfully listened to and considered when the final decisions are made. Parents should have a strong voice when it involves health or safety, as well as family engagement. Educators should share the day-to-day realities of how the policies are playing out. Students can speak to school environment and academic effectiveness. Administrators should bridge the path between the board and the daily procedures/processes. Taxpayers should voice their thoughts on financial responsibilites, future stability, and a strong community. Overall, there needs to be a reflection between community values and operational realities.
The biggest policy that I would speak to would be cell phone use in schools. However, Senate Enrollment Act 78, the bell-to-bell ban, handled it this summer. The only other thing that comes to mind that possibly could be revisited would be transportation. There has been parental issues because of bus driver shortages, long commutes, and a concern over possible route cuts or consolidations.
