VOTE411 Voter Guide

Utah House District 16

A member of the Utah House of Representatives serves a 2-year term, with all seats up for election every cycle. Representatives serve smaller districts than senators and make up the lower chamber of the legislature. Like senators, their role is to introduce and vote on laws, participate in committees, and represent constituents’ interests. Because of their shorter terms and smaller districts, representatives are often more directly responsive to local community concerns while helping shape statewide policy.

1. We have to concentrate on Single Family Homes. Families need backyards to kick balls, play games, etc. 2. Communities need to embrace smaller lot sizes without requiring open spaces/HOA's which add to the cost of the home. 3. We must take out as many up-front costs as possible in the development of lots. Unnecessary development cost ad more than many realize to the cost of the home. 4. We need opportunity for independent builders along with big box builders to compete for the first time buyers' business. The ability for the homeowner to find their own builder will create competition which will bring pricing down. 5. State and local governments, financial institutions, developers all need to partner to resolve this issue.
I am a big believer in local control. We elect our local leaders and very seldom do I believe state control over local government is the answer. We are much better off to work as a team in resolving problems than to force the issue. Each community has its own personality and we must respect that.
1. Agriculture is a big factor of our economy and lifestyle. Supporting Farming is one of the long-term factors in water supply. 2. Community's all across the state have implemented programs to save water. Supporting local water companies and communities in their conservation efforts will continue. We will continue to grow and planning for the water needs is imperative. 3. All across the state we have large industrial water users. With the advancement in technology, we are seeing greater need for water usage in the industrial base. Using the advancements in technology to find new ways to shrink the need for industrial water I believe is the answer to the long-term question. The future of water use is not the pasts technology.
1. Rebuild of I-15 from North Salt Lake to Ogden. 2. Double Tracking of Front Runner which will allow faster times and more riders. 3. Complete the Bus Rapid Transit from Station Park to University of Utah Research Park. 4. Extension of West Davis Highway into Weber County up to 12th street. 5. Creating Business centers (job centers) close to transit centers allowing individuals to work close to home. 6. In Davis County statistics show that nearly 70% of us travel outside the county to work. If we can bring Job Centers here that will help reduce the numbers traveling on the Interstate Highways.
We have come a long way in improving our air quality over the past 25 years. We have a long way to go. Our mass transit system (UTA) is a very important part of reducing emissions. Many question the need but as time and growth comes it will become a very important factor not only in moving people but also in our air quality. In our area we love our vehicles, but we also love our healthy lifestyle.
