I am uniquely qualified to serve Senate District 27 because of my professional experience and a strong record of community service. I am working as a paralegal in family law helping families through difficult situations and gaining practical knowledge of the legal system and I work with the statutes that are passed on the Senate floor. I am earning my master's degree in mental health counseling to further help our community. I am serving in the Republican party and volunteering on nonprofit boards to engage in different facets of our communities. As a wife, mother, and Wyoming woman, I understand the values and challenges facing our communities. I am the more accessible, responsive and the only fully engaged voice for the people of SD 27.
I do not believe that I can support an additional 50% reduction in property tax at this point. Our communities have all taken a hit to their budgets and it would be appropriate to reevaluate the stability of our communities before proceeding with this change of funding. Even with a backfill of revenue, I do not believe this is a fiscally responsible approach to our communities.
I oppose the sale or exchange of public lands. These public lands are part of Wyoming's heritage, support our way of life, and belong to the people of Wyoing for recreation, grazing, hunting, tourism, and multiple use. Once public land is sold, access and public benefit can be lost for generations. I do not believe Wyoming residents should lose land that has been part of our identity and future.
Wyoming previously had a block grant funding model that allowed the local school board to provide funding in the areas of public education that were needed for that school district. The legislature took that away from our local school boards wen it went to a silo funding model. Thsi took away the local control of our school boards. Every school board and district is unique and have different funding needs and responsibilities and I do not believe that the silo funding model is providing that to the districts. A clear evalutaion of the funding model should be completed to clarify that the best use of funds for education are being met.
Public funds for social services should be provided for essential services. Essential services such as protecting the truly vulnerable, strengthening families, and promoting self-sufficiency. The goal should be to provide a hand-up, not a hand-out. Social services are a basic role of government to provide for the safety of the public. Providing a hand-up of essential housing, food and safety for our youth, seniors, and most vulnerable community members is an important role for every community. Funding should be limited, transparent, and accountable to the people.
