Laramie City Council: Ward 2 {_getChooseLabel(this.selections.length)}

The nine council members are elected three each from three wards on a non-partisan ballot; they receive a stipend of $120 maximum each day for meetings they attend, with no offices or benefits. They serve four-year terms with no term limits; expiration years are staggered. There is one expiring term in Ward 2 The top two candidates for Ward 2 will advance to the General Election and in the Primary, you will vote for 2 for the one vacancy in Ward 1. The winner in the General Election will join sitting council members Jim Fried and Melanie Vigil in representing Ward 2.

Why are you running for this office, and what training, experience, and skills would you bring to this office?

What would be your top three priorities as a city council member?

Property taxes are a significant funding source for the city budget. In the 2026 General Election, voters will decide whether to pass a constitutional amendment for a 50% reduction in property taxation. How would your budget priorities change if the amendment passes or other tax reduction legislation is proposed by the legislature?

I am running for re-election to the Laramie City Council because I care deeply about our community and want to continue working on the issues that matter most to residents. During my first term, I focused on transparency, responsible spending, infrastructure, housing, and supporting public safety. Professionally, I am an instructor at WyoTech, where I teach leadership, management, and technical skills. My experience includes budgeting, problem-solving, team leadership, and working with people from diverse backgrounds. I bring a practical, common-sense approach, a willingness to listen, and a commitment to making decisions that serve the long-term interests of Laramie.
My top three priorities are infrastructure, housing, and public safety. First, I want to ensure the city invests responsibly in maintaining and improving roads, utilities, and other critical infrastructure while being mindful of taxpayer dollars. Second, I want to support policies that increase housing availability and affordability so families, workers, and young professionals can continue to live and thrive in Laramie. Third, I will continue supporting our police, fire, EMS, and emergency response personnel by ensuring they have the resources needed to keep our community safe while maintaining accountability and public trust.
If property tax revenues are significantly reduced, the City will need to focus on core services first. My priorities would be maintaining public safety, essential infrastructure, water and sewer systems, and other services residents rely on every day. I would support a thorough review of the budget to identify efficiencies, reduce non-essential spending, and ensure taxpayer dollars are being used effectively. At the same time, I would work with state legislators and local stakeholders to understand the long-term impacts of any tax changes and advocate for solutions that protect both taxpayers and the City's ability to provide quality services. Responsible budgeting and careful prioritization would be critical.
Rather than adding ordinances simply to increase regulation, I believe the City should regularly review existing ordinances to ensure they are effective, enforceable, and still serve a legitimate public purpose. I support identifying outdated, redundant, or unnecessarily burdensome regulations that can be simplified or repealed. As for new ordinances, I would focus on measures that address clear community needs, improve public safety, protect property rights, and support responsible growth. Any proposed ordinance should be evaluated based on its cost, effectiveness, and impact on residents and local businesses before being adopted.
