VACANCY SELECTIONS: How can you ensure that your appointment decisions serve the best interest of the community when filling vacant positions?

Yes, I support special elections to fill vacancies in the General Assembly.
1. Alignment with Community Priorities I would look for a candidate who understands the specific needs of the district and has a clear plan to address local issues like schools, public safety, economic development, and infrastructure.

2. Qualifications and Experience I would consider their professional background, leadership experience, and ability to navigate the legislative process effectively.

3. Integrity and Ethics Character matters. I would support someone with a strong ethical record.
Ensuring grassroots representation the central committee plays a key role in representing the voice of local voters and party members. By running, I ensure decisions reflect the community not just a small group of insiders.

I support special elections to fill vacancies in the General Assembly because our communities deserve a direct voice in who represents them. Democracy works best when the community make the final choice.
My criteria will focus on community roots, integrity, and a demonstrated commitment to public service. I want someone who has been actively engaged with residents, understands the issues facing the district, and will represent the community.
I’m running for the Montgomery County Democratic Central Committee because I believe politics should start with community. I want to help build a party that listens, organizes, and shows up for our community.I believe by strengthening grassroots engagement, educating the public, and supporting strong Democratic candidates, we can build a party that truly reflects the people of our district.
I believe appointment decisions should be guided by the needs of the community, not internal party politics. I would look for candidates with strong community roots, integrity, and a commitment to representing residents honestly and effectively in the Maryland General Assembly. Listening to local leaders, advocates, and residents would be an important part of that process.

Very strongly. Put simply, the right to chooose one's representatives is foundational to democratic governance. When a small committee appoints a legislator, they circumvent this process and voters lose their voice in decisions that affect them directly.
While I will fight for special elections, I understand that I may be called upon in the short-term to make such an appointment. First and most importantly, I will look for a candidate with a strong connection to the district. This individual must understand, genuinely invest in, and be active in the community they would represent. Second, the candidate should ideally have an understanding of state policy and a record of civic engagement, such that they are ready to contribute on day one.
As a Democrat, I want to fight back. I have watched the Republican Central Committee prop up erratic school board candidates and support bad faith ballot amendments that go unnoticed by the casual voter. I want to improve our education and awareness campaigns, bring transparency to our processes, and promote greater community involvement. We should serve as a model for a better form of political involvement.
The community itself must be involved. I would push for public notice of vacancies and community forums where candidates can be questioned and feedback can be soliticted from constiuents. I would seek input beyond party insiders, reaching out to neighborhood groups, civic associations, and residents directly affected. Public trust depends on decisions that involve public scrutiny.
