As an elected official, my first priorities is to listen to the peoples of Lee County and act on those concerns. I will fight to make sure that the peoples in this county are included in all decision making. Including budgeting, development, infrastructure and any social issues that may occur.
I have twenty years of experience working in the public service sector. I have held many leadership positions, that required me to think outside of the box in the growth of that organization. As a supervisor, I constantly looked for opportunity that would motivate my colleagues in working together to maximize productivities.
The most important challenges facing Lee County is overdevelopment, affordable housing and water quality. Our current commissioners have become complacent by not investing in responsible development. If elected, I would oppose any decision that does not have responsible development in mind. Affordable housing is a crisis that affects all citizens of Lee County, and as the county grows, we must maintain a community that supports our young adults to our retirees. As an elected official, I will fight to make sure that affordable housing is included in future development planning. All citizens deserve to have clean water. I believe that stronger regulations are needed. I would fight to expand the clean water act and its provisions.
Lee County needs to acknowledge that responsible development helps with accommodating the growth. We must plan ahead by fixing roads, adding roads to accommodate the growth. We should also focus on encouraging businesses to invest in our county. Creating more jobs that will help support the growth.
Attracting corporations that is willing to invest in affordable housing. Offering incentives to developers to also invest into affordable housing. The Board of County Commissioners should invest in organizations that assist with affordable housing.
As an elected official, I will fight to expand the provisions within the Clean Water Act. I would fight to make sure that the citizens are getting the current information towards the causes of pollutions within our water system. I would also oppose any development planning that requires the change of zoning in flooding areas. I think that it is the responsibility of our county officials in investing in meaningful water systems that will help keep our citizens from harmful bacteria that may occur in our water system throughout our county.
As an elected official, I would make sure that the board has planned ahead towards making sure that all insurance documents are completed and submitted before any disaster. I would also fight to make sure that the citizens are well prepared for any disaster, by conducting ongoing meetings towards routes for evacuations, what shelters are in place and any other emergency preparations.
In the event that Lee Health becomes privatized, the policies should continue to serve the uninsured and under insured. patients. There should be policies in place that safeguard patients from being denied services.
As an elected official I would fight for more funding towards supportive programs that would help with mental health challenges. Homelessness is a crisis that has many obstacles when it comes to sheltering. Many times, those that facing homelessness, refuses services because of the strict rules that are in place. There needs to be more shelter throughout our county that is able to offer shelter 24/7 without any restrictions. Such as the Low Barrier Shelter. Low-barrier housing is a housing-first approach that prioritizes providing individuals experiencing homelessness with immediate access to safe and stable housing without imposing stringent conditions or prerequisites. This module has supportive programs to help with transitioning.
