As the daughter of an immigrant and a Vietnam Veteran, I deeply recognize the vital importance of advocating for the resources our hardworking community deserves. Through my active involvement in domestic violence support organizations and leadership roles such as chairing the DV & SA Commission, I have honed the skills and understanding necessary to effectively represent District 13. My commitment is unwavering to fostering positive change and amplifying the concerns of my community.
My top priority that has come from directly from my constituents is addressing high crime rates and improving infrastructure in District 13. I plan to address it by continuing to meet with my community directly to make sure we create a coordinated community response involving key players and organizations, focusing on street repairs, lighting, traffic lights, and enhancing police response times. Together, we'll build a safer district where I am here to advocate for my community.
As a new candidate, I recognize the critical importance of water in New Mexico. I aim to collaborate with experts to develop comprehensive policies ensuring sustainable water management. This includes investment in infrastructure for efficient water management, robust drought management strategies, and collaboration with stakeholders to address competing demands. Our state's uniqueness demands proactive measures to safeguard this vital resource for future generations.
To improve public safety, accountability is key. Strengthening community-police relations, investing in mental health resources, and addressing root causes of crime are vital steps. Everyone deserves to feel safe—it's a fundamental human right.
I support initiatives to expand affordable housing options in NM, especially for single-parent families. This includes increasing subsidies for low-income housing, implementing measures to limit the rate at which landlords can increase rents, incentivizing developers to build affordable units, and providing financial assistance for first-time homebuyers as well as innovative ideas for the elderly. Every family deserves a safe and stable home.
New Mexico can foster economic diversification through strategic investments in renewable energy alongside enhancements to existing energy sources. Additionally, the expansion of tech industries, bolstering support for small businesses, and promoting tourism and economic development are pivotal. Prioritizing education and workforce development ensures a skilled labor force for emerging sectors, fostering job creation, economic growth and infrastructure improvements.
As a first-generation graduate and first-time candidate, I firmly advocate for equitable compensation for legislators. This practice ensures diverse representation, enabling individuals from diverse backgrounds to participate in governance. Paying legislators acknowledges the significance of their responsibilities, attracting dedicated individuals and mitigating the undue influence of wealth in politics. This fosters a more inclusive and effective legislative body benefiting all constituents.

I am the Incumbent, an accomplished and experienced legislator with the proven track record of over eleven years introducing and passing legislation signed into law.
Paid Family and Medical Leave, Living Wage and Gun Safety legislation are my top priorities. I intend to build on the years of coalition work, and strengthen relationships to see these to the finish line and into law in 2025.
We need to ensure we have water policies which address keeping our water safe and clean from contaminants so we need to strengthen all regulations and continue to ensure our oversight departments have adequate funding.
We need to have strong gun safety legislation, ensure our law enforcement departments have adequate funding, and provide access and opportunity to mental and behavioral health and continue to address root causes of crime.
We need to ensure low income populations are protected from out of control rental costs by repealing the ban on rent control, increase grant funds for down payment assistance for first time home buyers, and build more affordable mixed use housing (apartments, houses and senior living) development including building neighborhood grocery stores, small businesses and close proximity to schools, community and senior centers.
Reduce our dependency on oil and gas by increasing our renewable energy economy, provide more access and opportunity to apprenticeship training and career placement, and ensure our public education system provides a sufficient education for our children's future success.
Absolutely yes. We need to recruit, retain and promote representative leadership directly from our working communities and not just from the privileged and wealthy professions.
