Bingham County Commissioner, District 1
The three-member Board of County Commissioners is the governing body of the county. County Commissioner is the only office that has legislative, executive and judicial responsibilities and duties. Commissioners have the power to pass ordinances, adopt budgets, fix tax levy rates and oversee the county budget. They are charged with the duty of supervising the official conduct of all county officers as their conduct relates to public monies and revenues, as well as supervising appointed boards and committees. They also act as the Board of Equalization. The Board sits as a quasi-judicial body to hear various matters, including planning and zoning requests, property valuation protests and requests for cancellation of taxes, and indigent issues among many others.

I would like to see changes come to Planning and Zoning. We will start collecting impact fees help pay for the infrastructure that will be needed with new growth. I think all the needs of the schools and fire districts should be taken into account, as well the cost of roads and utilities before the county approves any housing or business development. I also believe county government should go out Aberdeen and Shelley once per month as well as other areas as needed to make government services available to everyone. The senior citizen centers would a good location to hold these meeting. I would also encourage other government agencies do the same let's bring the affairs of the government to the people to whom it belongs.
I served 12 years on the Firth City Council, from 1996 to 2008. I have also served as a Firefighter/EMT for 17 years. I am a water operator and also have a pest control license. In my current position I have had to manage budgets for the different areas I work in at Idaho Supreme. I think this and other things I worked at in the last 35 gives me good foundation to serve as a commissioner Bingham County.
Managing Planning and Zoning in Bingham County will be the greatest challenge. I can make sure the needs and wishes of the people are addressed as we manage the growth of Bingham County. What good will it do to keep county taxes low if a zoning decision by the county cause's the local School District have to increase their taxes? All stake-holder's need to have a place at table when it comes to zoning. I will address this need when I am elected.
When I am elected, I will hold weekly meetings for the residents of my district. I think it important to hear their concerns and give them information on what their local government is doing.
