The Board of Education does not “run” the Ridgewood Public Schools. That’s the job of the Superintendent. Rather, the BOE’s job is to ensure that the schools are well run. The Board does this by1) Setting district policies and goals2) Communicating policies and goals to the superintendent3) Overseeing the budget4) Hiring and evaluating the superintendent5) Serving as the communications link between the community and the school district.

There is growing concern about the potential risks GenAI in schools poses to students’ cognitive skills, mental health, data privacy, and academic integrity. What would you propose the policy of Ridgewood Public Schools be regarding GenAI?
What is your general philosophy around the use of technology in the classroom? What specific limits, if any, should the district place on daily student screen time? And how should our schools balance digital assignments with non-digital learning experiences?
Some Black and African American students and families have expressed concerns about feelings of marginalization, exposure to subtle and overt bias, disparities in disciplinary outcomes, limited cultural representation, and the lack of faculty and staff who reflect the diversity of the student body. How should the district assess and respond to these concerns? What role do you believe social-emotional learning, student belonging, faculty diversity, mentorship, and culturally responsive practices should play in supporting student success? What measurable goals would you support (e.g., student belonging survey results, disciplinary outcomes, student achievement, participation in advanced coursework, retention of diverse staff, or other indicators), and how would you hold the district accountable for progress?
