Community colleges have an "open door" policy, meaning anyone can attend. How will you ensure the board supports students who arrive underprepared for college-level work, without compromising academic standards?

Because our community college relies heavily on local property taxes, what is your plan to ensure transparency and show local taxpayers that their investments are being managed properly?

Delta offers various intermediate level courses to those who arrive underprepared for college-level coursework in one or more subject areas, and I believe that the college should continue to offer these. One of a community college's duties is to make higher education accessible to as many people as possible. To do this, Delta must be prepared to meet each student "where they are", and help them unlock their potential so that they can prepare themselves for a bright future. For this same reason I am a strong supporter of the Michigan Reconnect Scholarship program, and will advocate for continued state support of this program if elected to the board.
The taxpayers of Mid-Michigan entrust Delta College with their hard-earned money to support the college's operations. Therefore, the college is obligated to be responsive to the community's needs. I believe that Delta should seek to provide the taxpayers with as great of a return on their investment as possible by strengthening its vocational and technical programs. This will enable us to build a strong, well-educated workforce in our region and be prepared to attract more good paying jobs, specifically in the skilled trades, healthcare and technology sectors.

Delta College's open door is only meaningful if students can walk through it and succeed. As Vice Chair, I have advocated for strong developmental education pathways, early alert systems, and wraparound supports including tutoring, advising, and mentorship that meet students where they are without lowering the bar. Academic standards are non-negotiable, and I will continue ensuring the board remains intentional about how we support students in reaching them. Equity and excellence are not opposites. They are our obligation.
Taxpayers deserve to know exactly how their dollars are being used. I will continue advocating for clear, accessible financial reporting including budget summaries in plain language, regular community updates, and open board meetings where residents can ask questions and receive real answers. I also support performance-based accountability, ensuring investments are tied to measurable student outcomes. Trust is earned through transparency, and I am committed to both.
